Jim and gang. Are there really no cameras to give out to people waiting for repairs. Just got my camera back from Red support yesterday, fan didn't work anymore, and I have to send it back again. Wrote about the fan the last time it was in. Strange that nobody spotted this before they sent it out. Surely there must be cameras to lend out. Living in Norway I can't just stop by Red HQ.

We are a small business and didn't really have the money for a Red, but bought it anyway. I'm in the middle of a feature production that would have gotten us our money back, but the camera is not working so that money is lost. Camera #600 is definetly a bad apple.

Anything Red can do to help is appreciated. The request for a complete checkup of camera #600 was not taken seriously the last time.

Every single camera (repaired or new) goes through vigorous outbound QA before it leaves RED's doors. I can assure you the fan worked when it left but something may have happened during transit from US to Norway. Please get in touch directly with our repair manager, Brian, at bfair@red.com and he will get this worked out with you.

There had been problems with the fan before the first repair. And I mentioned that in my emails of list to check up. So I don't think the transportation is the issue. I'm confident that the camera will be fixed and checked for errors this time around. I've arranged to have it shipped back, but again I'm left with no camera in the middle of a production.

Trying to stay positive, though. Takes complex breathing exercises to pull it off, I assure you..

try to rent a camera from germany ore something like that.here there are a lot of cams at the moment maybe you have luck and the send it express to you.

with the replacements bodies i can understand...it would be definitly cool to get one...at your charge of coure...

but i think renting a single cam out to a feature is irresponsible...
a production loses much more then the rental company.

the rentalguy should be able to organise a backup body within 30 min.
And here we are again...renters should calculate their price regarding this issues.

---i am not saying you did it that way...i dont know how you did it.

imagine it was your feature and this happens to you.
bad reputation for the renting company
and to be honest for red too in a way...
its officialy still beta...so back up body for features is a must.

you dont have to own a second body...just network with other owners.

We have access to more Reds. No problem there. Two cameras on set today. The production is doing fine. I'm not. I need rent money to pay off the camera in the first place. And I'm not getting paid when the camera is in transit all the time between here and california. I should have a functional camera like everyone else, don't you think?

I feel your pain. I have not had a properly functioning camera since May 19...today is June 11. My feeling is that when they had 50 cameras in the field, they were quick to replace the ones that didn't properly function. Now that they're approaching 2,000 cameras in the field, RED won't/can't be as forthcoming with replacements.

So set expectations accordingly, y'all.....

of course you should have a functional camera...
and that you organised a body is the way to go...

i would prefer a red station somewhere in europe...
what do you think?

A europeen station would be great. Someone should set up shop in London or something.

Got my EVF today and some other stuff I'd ordered. Just missing the camera body now...

Next day, new camera body insurance.

I have a feeling many people including me (when I get my Camera hopefully soon) would be more then happy to pay for.
for Red it could be easy, and profitable to arrange this kind of service.
and it would help them to give better service.
