Ok, so I have finally finished the cut, and have done the following:

-Export xml from final cut.
-Run conform on fcp xml file to proxies_H (2k) (in clipfinder)
-Import the new xml into final cut.
-Send to color. Save the project and send it to clipfinder
-Run looping bug with clipfinder.
-Open the color project.

My question is if I can change the resolution of the final renders in project settings, or if what comes out of color is the same as the proxies linked with the xml. The thing is, I tried linking first with 4k, just to do an export from color in 2k. But the program did the renders at 4k.

You can change the resolution in your project settings. It does not matter for color if you send it the P proxies or the F. The only thing is that scaling will be wrong, so you'll have to recheck the scaling of files...

Which of course is a pita...

So, long story short, it is better to send to color a project reconnected at 2k, because this will be the final output, isn't this right?

I have another question:

If I was to make the final output with red cine x, I would have to import an edl or xml file. Is there any way to do this? I know there is a program out there that converts xml and edl to a file red cine x can open, but it is not free. Is there any free way of doing this? If not, I will probably try it, and of it works I will buy the full version (which costs around 10-15 bucks, if I recall correctly).

1)
Yup

2)
People do this... :-))

I don't', because Clipfinder is working well.

I think you'll have to "EDL-ready" your xml before you import into rcx
i.e. only one track in the XML, no "other" than r3d material etc etc etc.

If I had to choose betwen doing an online from RAW in Color and RCX, I'd do color.

Preparing files for uncompressed online, is better done in RCX, though...

If you have a Rocket and know how to set up your monitor, Color is actually pretty nice these days. Absolutely all we dreamt of back in 2008! :-))

When you say that people do this, you mean that they buy the program?

I know how I should prepare the xml, what I don't know is how do I open it in RC-X

I also prefer the color workflow, but the cinematographer wants to do it with RC-X. He tested the same files in both ways, and with color there was more grain in the blacks than in RC-X. I have the final word, but if there is any way of doing it with RC-X that doesn't involve spending money, then I am up for it.

I will try the trial version of that program, though; and if it really works I will think about getting it.

So no knows how to open and edl or an xml in RC-X? :(

i personally don't like onlining in color with r3d, for the simple fact that on export it doesn't do a full debayer. the images are much softer coming out of color from r3d's. so i just online with full debayer pro res 444, dpx, or uncompressed, clip finder, and redo the one light in rcx to ultra flat with redcolor2, and redlogfilm. if you need to alter more metadata, u can always pull back up the clip in rcx, change it there, output, relink. little more tedious, but nobody said conform and online was always easy... plus the fact that color is a packaged grading software with no major updates or overhaul in years....

I would like to see some verification of that statement. I did some tests WAY back when comparing Color renders to Clipfinder and the RED tools. Gunleik might remember that one. Anyways, with all settings equalized there's pretty much no discernible difference between a frame rendered out of Color and one rendered out of RC-X. A lot of the "Color isn't doing a full debayer" FUD is due to the fact that there are *NO* sharpening controls in the metadata for Color. You have to apply it in ColorFX if you want it.

I rendered a project in Color overnight, and when I came back this morning, someone had closed my Color project! Is there a way to send my rendered files to FCP without re-rendering in Color?

There was a slide as part of REDucation that listed the Debayer of Apple software as the lowest quality method of converting from RAW. It wasn't one of the slides we got as students so I don't remember the full order. I remember Adobe sitting quite nicely with the pricier software though.
