  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Renaming transcodes then conform to original R3Ds, any issues?

You shoot on a RED camera.
You then create transcodes from the R3d's.
You then change the file name of the transcodes to reflect the take number. So the original file name of the Transcodes becomes 1A_T01, etc...

Will there be an issue with the conform back to the R3Ds due to the transcodes now having a different nam?

I've always left the transcodes name alone, so it is the exact same as the R3D, but a lot of editors prefer to work with take names instead of a string of numbers, so was very curious if it causes issue when conforming. .

Don't change the names...

Yes it can mostly be solved, but it would generally be a better practice to change the names (if you need to) in the editor (which doesn't alter the names in explorer/finder).

Gunleik is right: this is a bad idea. Change the metadata all you want, but not source file names.

In many programs like Premiere CC, changing the name within Premiere will not change the original file name. This is ok to do, as you are still linking to the original file name, but do not change the actual clip name, this will just result in problems down the line.
