Working on a project where all the material was AMA into the avid. i need to rerender all the material for due to colouring issues and framing issues.

the rendering part is no problem I am doing thIs with a clipster, also changing the tapename one by one is no problem by unlinking clips modify and changing source.

is there any way you can do this via batch??? i have 40 days material and editing has alredy begun so using new ALE etc is not an option

This is what I have tried with little joy

Export tab delimited, change tapename in excel save and open in AVid log exchange then merge

export Ale swap filwname and tape in text edit

There is a solution as I said above buT we have thousands of clips and this would take long

Cheers

i think this is what you are after (and i am not in front of my avid so forgive me..)
1. open bin in avid
2. hilite the clips you need to change
3. right click (sorry...winblows opp..) and select "modify"

and this is where i will need someone to check for me...

you are looking for "modify by source" and i think it is drop down tab.
once you are in there change the source to you new name and hit ok.
you will get a long message warning you about doing this but you need to do this. and that is it.

repeat until finished...hope this helps

thanks wayne, this I know, but I am trying to find a method where I batch change the names.... one by one I can do but I have a hell of alot of clips to go through (40 day shoot)

cheers

sorry...that's my best solution.
i tried going into media tool to see if i could sift by source then export groups from there but no luck.
i use a bin per file source (treating them like tapes) so that is why i suggested my work flow.
i'll keep looking and if find anything i'll let you know

Right Click files Export an ALE. Open the ALE in a text editor do a Find/Replace... this might be quicker if you have duplicate tape names.

Then import the ALE into Media Composer

The challenge here is that each master clip has a unique "Source ID" which is the original filename itself - AMA puts it in the SOURCE FILE and all other apps put it in the TAPE column. Getting one from the other is not an easy process. Perhaps an ALE export, then edit the ALE file an change SOURCE FILE to TAPE and merge that back in...

It might work. Might not.

Thanks, guys have tested this but will give it another try

Will keep you updated

No we had to modify and relink one clip at a time :-)....

Marcus

Also after relinking we had big problems when opening different bins
