  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

remote start/stop products?

OK...I'm going to throw another thing in the ring...how about also having on the remote start/stop, with tally light module...a LED battery voltage readout? I have not seen ViewFactor's unit, but doesn't it have a series of LEDs that give you the battery power which is especially nice if you don't have access to a monitor (rigging shots) or using non-RED batteries?

Is it there any cheaper option available? Switch+cable is over $200. Any ideas?

Thanks!

The VF Origo is a bit pricey -- as is a Red handle, etc. But it's a very solid unit and from a low budget guy, I think worth. I'm hoping it might work on future Red iterations as well, although who knows.

Hi Ronford-Baker also supply cables complete with start/stop buttons. You can purchase just the cable or have it complete with a handle as well.
We keep stock and can make custom lengths.
Please see our website http://www.ronfordbaker.co.uk/video.html or email us for more info.
We can also supply cables for Sony, Panasonic and Arri Cameras.

Interesting thread.

Also note that the Imperio that comes with the Birger Mount or directly with the VF follow focus solution, also gives you remote start stop via Bluetooth.

The VF Origo is a great product, though, and if I didn't have an Imperio on the way then I would definately get an Origo.

Not only tally lights, but it also beeps to record, then double beeps for stop.

I am looking into a way to remote start/stop the RED from a back control room and ran across this thread. I was wondering the cost involved in having a cable and (very basic) control box with a record button. Here's the kicker: the RED is currently somewhere around 200 feet away from the back control room.

It's looking like the cheapest method would be to make my own cable for this. While I have done some basic soldering and can make sense of the diagram Anders posted, I have not made custom cabling before. Probably a silly question, but where would I get the actual cable necessary to make the connections? Also, is 200 feet going to be too far a distance for this to work properly?

Thanks for any help!
