remote record button on handle

Hi,

I'm about to buy a RED one. One of the things I would like to know if ther's a way to have a record button on the right handle if shooting run and gun. I do a lot from the shoulder so I want as much on the handles as possible even the zoom. For the lower end I always used the remote controls by varizoom, but want to try if there's a mechanical way to duplicate the functions on the RED rails.

The Origo from ViewFactor will turn the record on and off. Check out the Element Technica Mantis as it has a spot for the Origo to hook right into it. No zoom on it however.

Check this out. It is fairly straight forward to adapt the roll switch to momentary, and change the connectors on this. There is also a bracket available that mounts a Microforce onto 60mm spaced lightweight rods.

You could get a microforce zoom handle and a motor. It's a lot pricier than a varizoom, but it's basically the only thing that will cut it. You'd have to have a motor for each zoom lens unless you had the time to swap it with a lens change. Remember that you're not going to have nearly the range on your lens that you would have with a 2/3" camera. The Red is not a run and gun camera.

your'e right about the run and gun, but when already having it on you're shoulder it would be a plus to have it. The red is built to screw everything on, so I will, :laugh:

Also check out Preston, their controllers include a remote start / stop interface to the RED ONE.

Also if you are using B4 lenses (with RED optical adaptor) we respond to the "VTR" and "RET" buttons as Start / Stop and Play Last Clip respectively.
