  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Remember when it was about the story not the quality

It's not about the story, it's about the telling of the story. And if you don't believe that choosing the appropriate tools is an important part of cinematic storytelling, then you need to find another forum.

finally! he was getting so annoying, always wanted to argue, never contributed real information, and wrote like a 13 year old girl texts.

The 'indie' will be a synthesized effect. 'Low quality' within an impeccable wrapper. The Real will have moved on.
Best is not a synonym for highest quality.

There won't be anywhere for the "real" to go. We are reaching a point of minimum quality where everything looks good. Nothing looks like a 1980's soap opera anymore.

There was a great divide between film, and really crappy video.

Now, that divide is gone, or at least disappearing. Everything looks like really great video now. Once it's HD, the rest is kind of pixel peeping general audiences often dont' even notice.

Get a few basics down, don't burn out the highlights, don't use to high of an ISO in low light so there's not to much noise, etc., and it just looks good. Maybe not great, but good.

Good enough for a pixel peeping director or director of photography? No, of course not. Good enough for 99% of the people interested in the content?

Probably.

So I think yes, there will be a greater emphasis on content, on story. Some of the old guard are not so happy that you don't need 20 years of experience and a 100K digital camera or enough money to shoot and develop film to make a pretty image, but that's where we are now.

17 year olds can make a pretty image with a T2i and a few lights they bought from working at McDonalds. Generally the content sucks, but they can make a pretty image. That wasn't always true.

I think people forget that it used to look like this, OR you had to shoot film.

you people are all screwed.. It's not about story. and it's not about acting. Screw the cameras too.

It's about having really cool opening credits!

Jay
No no no! You've got it all wrong Jay!

It's all about that cool trailer and marketing $$$ that went into it!! :D

I miss the "I am error" thread.

Yeah... That's why Inception sucked so much, I guess. :)

Its always been about the story, how you tell it, how you make it happen, how you fund it, how you define your market, how you crew it......then finally what with & what format.
