Hey guys,

Out of the blue I started seeing a yellow "UNKWN" displaying on my LCD where it shows the remaining battery life. I thought it may have been a firmware issue so I upgraded the firmware to the latest, but it still persists.

I've done some testing - here's what I've tried and what happens:

Tried: Plug in to AC power
Result: Shows 15.0V as normal

Tried: Red Brick attached with Red Volt in side handle
Result: Yellow UNKWN status and

Tried: Red Brick attached on its own
Result: A blank space where the remaining battery should display

Tried: Red Volt in side handle on its own
Result: 28% remaining showed as normal

Also, sometimes it came up with an "incompatible battery" message on boot. It's also worth noting that even when these messages appear, or it displays UNKWN, the batteries still seem to work fine, I just can't tell how long they have left.

I have a Scarlet Dragon, running latest firmware (v6.3.17).

UPDATE: I'm doing some more testing now and I can't recreate this issue anymore. It seems to working as normal now, but I'm going to leave this post here and ask for information around this issue in case it returns and so I can find out why this might have happened.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jay.

This could be two things. There's a magnet in Red compatible battery plates which activates some circuitry in Red compatible batteries. And there's two contacts in the V-Lock battery plate that carry data between the battery and the camera. If the magnet is loose or dislodged, or either of the two data lines is intermittent, this could cause the symptoms you describe.
