  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Just came on a project to do a little trailer for funding, and the media is all offline. I go and check their avid media files folder and there are not a lot of mxfs in there, and they are attached to other projects. So then I brushed up on the media tool hoping it may help, but seems it only works when stuff has been imported and thus transcoded, which from my belief this wasn't. I do have a lot of logged material, but the stuff isn't organized very well on the finder level in mac so its looking convoluted to find all this stuff and relink it, was hoping for advice, plus none of the camera raw stuff is logged well! Also multiple cameras were shot format wise, and also sometimes multi cam so I imagine its probably AMA linked to at least a few different formats, but uniformly nothing is online media wise so I am guessing someone moved the folder structure around not knowing it would unlink everything... Not entirely sure what has happened to it or why honestly..

So as someone not versed where any of the stuff lives and just coming on this now, any tricks to make the relinking a bit easier? Thanks!!!

Found out all media has been transcoded to pro res, still not sure where originals live though and still ideally hoping to find an easy solution to relinking, if one exists? PS tried CC for the first time on their bay, was amazed how that program can relink on auto so fast, ugh wish I had something like that in Avid...

If there is nothing in the MXF folders, then it was probably done via AMA linking to ProRes. One could question the workflow up front, but that is water under the bridge. One of the columns available to display is the source file path, that can give you an idea of the last location known. Do you have all the ProRs files accessible? Are you only trying to relink the sequences? If you also look at columns TAPE and SOURCE FILE, it will give you an idea of how the media was created. This will give us clues and next steps.

Will check it out when I am back at that bay, probably Tuesday. Thanks for the help! Always appreciated!
