Hello all,

I have been using Lexar FW800 card readers and it looks like my second one has gone flakey in a short period of time. We always seem to have to bust them open to get them to work.

Does anyone that shoots on cards have a recommendation for a robust card reader?

I firmly believe Red has to step in here and overengineer one for us (and charge appropriately). Loads of naive users will complain the cost is too much... but I've bought all the current readers and am just not 100% happy. We need more security coming of CF..

thoughts??

Need RED STATION now!!!!

I've bought 5 or 6 LEXAR readers over the past couple years and 2 have died. The first one I bought nearly 3 years ago is still working just fine though. I've bought two of the SanDisk FW800 readers and one has become really flakey and will no longer read RED 16GB cards at all.

I had an ExpressCard to CF adapter too, it was OK. But it broke itself in my laptop bag one day. I went to buy one a month or so back and at the time couldn't find any that were compatible with Snow Leopard and were also a true ExpressCard interface and not just using the embedded USB2 in the slot.

Wasn't there a thread recently about overheating card readers leading to the dreaded green flash frames? Definitely worth having at least two so one can cool down, or just in case one breaks down in the field or gets lost etc...Sandisk Firewire 800 and Lexar Firewire 800 seem to be the most reliable.
