Can you elaborate on the "reduced memory consumption"?

I'd also like a copy of this as an integrator.

Thanks!

Hmmm I'm getting weird but consistant playback rates. All off a decent raid.

4khd footage at 23.98
H are playing at a consistant 8fps
M at 12
and P at 23.98

I don't want to be a pain, but can we still hope for a PC QT codec in a near future ? Do you even have someone working on that, or is that now considered a low priority ?

It has been nearly 2 years now since the first Reds were delivered, and still no sign of a PC QT codec...

I know Macs are cool, I do have one and I love it, but a lot of post production facilities are still on PC, and are not going to change that.

Thanks !

I'll chime in too - I'm doing a load of compositing on a short shot on red - I've been given the native r3d files but I can't scrub them in anything convenient. Not good.

For composite try to give r3d to redrushes and export DPX or Tiff, if you wanna see a fine scrub much better QT prores, depends how quality you need. Redcodec requires a lot of process.

If you have Adobe CS4 suite you can just drag and drop on the timeline, otherwise use the free RedCine to scrub through the shots easily (set 1/4 or 1/2 res for faster scrubbing).

That said, I really would like to see PC/Mac parity in application software, it really has been too long....

methinks there is a very good reason why there is no PC quicktime codec...

...But what reason is there, other than lack of man-hours or developer resources, to not have a Windows Media R3D codec by now? In fact, I don't see why someone couldn't build R3D support for Windows via the RED SDK.

I also agree on the PC / Mac parity that Paul mentions. We really need RedRushes and REDLINE in PC land. Actually, REDLINE makes far more sense for Windows / Linux than it does for OSX -- the bulk of the world's render farms do not run on OSX. Once again, the RED SDK can be used to build tools like REDLINE. I'm guessing that no one does it because they assume RED has these tools just around the corner and there's work-arounds and ways to get by for now. Or at least that's how I look at it.

RED Alert for Windows would be handy too and necessary if the current form of REDRushes / REDLINE were to be ported over. But it's the one app that wasn't supposed to persist and I think all the features were to be rolled into REDCINE by now.

I want to think that we will see new tools in the next couple months along with the initial release of Red Rocket.
