RELEASED: RED ADOBE CS4 INSTALLER (v1.3.0)

Hi Paolo,

(Yeah, I'm part of the engineering team @ Adobe.)

If the .epr file is there, then I'm not sure why it would fail. Can you attach a zip file with the .epr file, and a sample .prproj file that won't reload?

Thanks

Guys,

If I want to output DPX to cc in Baselight, is it best to put color profile as None in AE ?

Since there's no ISO setting, is there any work around if I want to assign lower ISO setting to the R3D file ?

thanks

José

The installer reports "out of disk space--volume '%temp%'; required space: 1,520KB; available space 0kb. Free some disk space and try again"

A couple of questions:

1) Mac OS X or Windows? Which version of these Operating Systems? Which Service Packs?

2) How much memory does this machine have?

3) How much space is available on your temp drive (on Windows this is normally your C: drive)?

Questions for Wil

I have been having the same problem, but I cannot change to a QT preview file format, when I do Premiere force quits with a fatal error report. Right now I am running a trial version, will getting the full version correct this problem? Does the problem have to do with the XP 32 bit SP3 that I am running? Will Vista 32 or 64 bit correct the problem? Or is the "I-Frame Only MPEG.epr" file corrupt and I just need to replace it?

Thanks

Hi rob,

Thanks for you response.

I'm running-

XP professional service pack 3
4ddr2 ram ( i'm going to have to upgrade!!)
Q9400 2.66GHz
5Gb unused on C:/
Updated both AE and PR

I actually got it to install. I downloaded a program called universal extractor. It extracted the files from the Red cs4 installer into a folder, then i moved those files into there correct folders. Seems to have worked so far. Although AE seem to crash when using rd3 files. What files do i need to place into AE folders besides RedSettingsPal.aex? Do i place ImporterRed to any of the AE Folders?

Great work on the release of the Red plugin, seems like it was well worth the wait!!

Thanks

Ha ! :sorcerer:

You can use Adobe Media Encoder to directly convert a .R3D file to whatever you like... all the vFW codecs and stuff...

... This is intense sweetness.

So it is true, i'm the only one who is:
- fully updated
- editing like a breeze on a mbpro
- unable to reopen a saved project: "this project contained a sequence that could not be open. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associate ith this sequence type"

I too am having this problem: I am using XP Pro SP3, have CS3 installed and installed CS4 trial version (purchased from adobe store on DVD). I installed, updated Pr to 4.0.1.0 and AE to 9.0.1. I then downloaded and installed the Redcode CS4 installer package for windows. I can not reopen a project. Same message. However my choices are I frame or Microsoft .avi.
If I click the "configure" button, Pr crashes every time.

There you go. Thanks to Luca Immesi for the input:
From the master collection trial window:
*Adobe Encore CS4 is not available as a trial. It will be installed as part of the trial DVD set for Creative Suite 4 Production Premium and Master Collection but will not be available for use until you purchase. The trial versions of Adobe After Effects CS4, Flash CS4 Professional, Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, and Soundbooth CS4 do not include some features that depend on software licensed from parties other than Adobe. For example, some codecs for encoding MPEG formats are available only with the full version of these products.

Brains out there trying to solve this, steam off.

Thanks so much, I thought that was the problem, I just wanted to be sure before going out and getting the licensing for it.

Kona 3 and Premier CS4

Kona 3 and Premier CS4

I've been trying to output using our Kona3 through Premier without any luck. AJA's updates make reference to CS3 only, I'm curious if anybody else has had luck getting the output through the Kona3 working correctly?

We're using a standard MSI installer package that requires elevated / administrator rights to install (but not run), so it's weird that it would fail...

You say AE crashes which seems to indicate you have not updated to the latest After Effects version (9.0.1). Please make sure you have and check that you have the latest Premiere as well.

For AE you only need RedSettingsPal.aex if you want to have the AE menu. The importer goes to a central place.

I'll re-test the installer on my XP machine this week. Did you run the installer inside the ZIP file by any chance? Or did you copy it to your desktop or something first?

Rob,
That sounds kinda scarey to me. I installed from within the zip file and did not move any files. After updating to 9.01 and 4.0.1, the programs ran even though it was an eval cs4. (Of course that caused it's own set of problems.)
Sounds to me like something is wrong if he is moving files around. Most files if moved, will have incorrect registry entries causing them not to be found.

Dave

Nothing scary about it, we don't write any registry entries (not needed).

I was talking about the MSI (installer) file. It should probably not be run from within the ZIP (which Windows will allow you to do) but should be moved somewhere else first before running (less chance of things going wrong).

Of course we do not advice people to extract the MSI and install the files manually...

I'll be checking the installer on my XP machine within the hour

So just to confirm...the CS4 Trial doesn't work with the new RED codec?

It should work, but it sounds like there might be an issue with the RED presets and the trial edition of Premiere Pro

So I tried the installer on my XP SP3 machine running it from within the ZIP and that worked fine too.....

For the people who are having problems installing it on Windows: if you're proficient with the command line please execute the following:

SET

Then look at the line TMP and TEMP line and see where that points to (post it here as well please) and if that drive has enough free space

If that still doesn't point to the problem please execute:

msiexec /i "REDCODE CS4 Win 1.3.msi" /l*v "REDCODE CS4 Win 1.3.log"

Do that in the folder where you put our installer file. It will generate a log file of the installation process and might document what went wrong. Send that log file to my first name at red.com please.

Regarding CS4 trial + RED plugins, I should have realized that - it didn't occur to me that people were using the trial.

So Paolo's info is correct: CS4's trial does not include support for MPEG (since this is a licensed component that requires Adobe to pay royalty fees). This didn't occur to us when we created the RED preset files, which use MPEG 2 as a preview codec. So, if you use the presets as is in the trial version, the projects won't reload directly.

However: you can create a custom preset based on the ones we provide, change out the compressor type, and you should be good to go.

(Paolo, if you have a chance, try double-clicking inside the project window & import the non-loading project - in theory, that should allow you to bring over what you cut previously into a new preset.)

Cheers

Hi rob,

Thanks again for you reply...

to answer you questions

- I had installed the updates for both Pr and AE.

- I ran the installer from the desktop.

-"We're using a standard MSI installer package that requires elevated / administrator rights to install (but not run), so it's weird that it would fail..."
Yeah this is weird, karapetkov seemed to have the same problem too...

Maybe part of the problem with AE crashing was having parts of cs3 still installed on my comp. ( not sure if this was a rookie mistake, ah ha)
I made sure all information from my previous cs3 and cs4 was removed. (I had problems with, and read about how CS4 media Encoder will not run properly if cs3 is still hanging around on the system) I reinstalled cs4, updated Pr and AE, used universal extractor to unzip the Redplugin and....
everything is working now! What a great product. Being able to open Rd3 Prem Projects in AE via Dynamic link is awesome!

....
ummmmm i just tried to run the installer again, just to see if would bring up the same error messages, and it seems to work now... strange. (would this have to do with having cs3 components completly removed?)

Do you still want me to send through the command lines?

Thanks
Eugene

Works great on MBP so far but is it possible for it not to conform the audio until I put the clips in the project folder? If I'm just browsing for the files I want to use I don't want to use up disk space with conforms I will never use.
