  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RELEASED: FIRMWARE - BUILD 15 (v2.2.5)

Selectable menu data is interesting subject, something for us to think about for the future.....

Yes. My opinion is that the Red One at build 15 is getting very close to being the perfect camera.

The small things like clean operator views, fast boot times, and no giant red X's on the director/client's monitors are what will gain it acceptance in the world of high-end production.

I didn't really believe all of the messages on here about how the old rumors still haunt the image of Red, but just today I had to explain to two different (very smart) camera people that yes, we can shoot below 0 celsius, and no, it doesn't crash all the time. There's still a lot of work to do!

On the LCD its not "turned off".

Its a change in the image scaling, as the LCD is 1024 x 600 and the graphic feed to the EVF and LCD is 1280 x 848. So by changing the crop / scale factor we can use either the full height or full width of the LCD display. Hence "with menus" or "without". The EVF doesn't need a scaler, so its always 1280 x 848 pixels.

Thanks Stuart, I agree this is very important. I am very distracted when shooting with all the info.

While we are at it the ability to optionally shade the Surround View darker would be a huge help as well. I prefer viewing my exact framing in the viewfinder and LCD rather than seeing the extra information, but thats just me. Having the ability to darken the extra information would help considerably.

I started another thread requesting this here:

Bad news. Our first day with the Release Build 15 (2.2.5) and the camera froze on bootup about 30 percent of the time. It sometimes took three attempts to get it to work.

We also had LCD stutter in the lower third, which we hadn't seen for weeks. For us, the release build seems less stable than the beta, except that the spontaneous power-down seems to have stopped.

Same is happening here, no improvement on the boot-freeze problem.
It takes me sometimes 5 min to start the camera. It works better when all the media is disconnected during the boot.
edit:deleted.

Albert,

It's very well documented that Redcine is the only app that supports 16x9 at this point. It's in every single document they put out.
