Great job on monitor out - dig the output control panel. Nicely done. Now we are starting to have some real fun. I also was able to render to the new Prores codecs!

Yay.... I can now use my spacebar instead of tapping it in futility. :)

We're cookin' now. So here come the feature requests...

The monitor output panel is nice. Any chance we can create our own output presets at some point or get some more added? Currently there's 50, 59.94 and 60Hz scan rates, would be nice to have 29.97, 24 and 23.98... More resolution presets too, or the ability to create our own. Would like to see 1366x768 and 2560x1600.

Still hoping for HDMI 10bit+ "deep color" output ability direct from the card without the BOB. :)

Do we have 1920 x 1080p resolution monitor output now?

Im playing back 4K full debayer to our SDI monitor... amazing. We're not getting simultaneous playback on the GUI and SDI. We're only getting SDI playback atm.

We'll perform some definitive test but the color space and gamma does not seem to be interpreting the same as RED ALERT, RED CINE, Scratch, etc.

Enabling the SDI seems to produce a few bugs. When SDI is on you cannot close a clip without turning off the SDI. There is a significant lag (close to one second maybe) between adjusting the color settings of a clip and seeing it on the SDI display. Even when the SDI is off, adjustments are a little laggy. Besides playing back a clip itself (which im still astonished to see play back in real time) everything feels slow and laggy. Loading clips, switching between clips, adjusting clips, etc.

Really exciting but still early days.

Very cool, guys. This has come a long way fast. Thanks a bunch for getting this one out. Definitely getting excited about where this is heading. A few questions/observations:

-As noted by Emery, I'm also only getting an either/or option of output to monitor OR having it play back on the computer. Is this going to change? I thought simultaneous output was on the list. Am I pushing it to ask if all 3 outputs would play back (computer LCD, HD SDI for colorist/editor, HD over DVI to client monitor)?

-My Metadata is not coming in from the camera, I don't think. Is this supposed to be under Default or Metadata?

-A little clunky when you bring a new clip in and have to "Set White Balance." If you're set on output via Rocket, a freeze of your last clip stays on your computer screen. So you have to disable Rocket, set white balance, and then enable Rocket to start grading.

-Rendering has sped up nicely. My test clip that is 458 frames (19 seconds) is down to :31 to export it as a ProRez422HQ. Very nice!

-Looking forward to having audio. Much easier if you are setting Ins/Outs to hear the action call.

-Love the new Exports panel and naming/destination settings. Awesome job in changing that.

-Not sure how you're setting up the "Batch" process, but hopefully there will be an easy way to "select all" clips in your clip list and then either apply a "Look" and/or export all. I know you're on this, but it seems like maybe the ability to shift/control click on multiple clips would be a good thing to apply looks and then export.

Thanks it from me for now. Great work!

Hey Emery, How are you turning off the SDI? I can go in and change Rocket settings, but if I then want to go back to the GUI, I have to restart the program, I can't turn it off.

Any advice?

Jim

One other quickie I just noticed is you have locked your presets? Any chance we'll be able to delete them so we can keep our presents box clean if we don't use DPX, etc.?

Thanks again.

Kevin

Jim, you just click the rocket button again. It's currently a toggle between output and computer screen.

If it doesn't work that way for you, you might want to reload...probably a glitch.

Ahhh. Got it. Should this build be working with DVI or only SDI? I don't seem to be getting DVI output, though I'm possibly doing something wrong.

I get a bit of green playback from the 720 setting but no signal on other settings. The monitors can do up to 1920x1200.

Thanks Kevin.

I'm not getting anything out via DVI either, so I'm guessing DVI out is not enabled yet? Tried on both a Dell 30" (dual link cable) and to a Dell 20" (single link cable).

Also my comment above about frame rates wasn't accurate. I see now that I've played with it more that 23.98, 24, etc.. and others are there. It just shows different sets for each mode, but it seems like some modes should have some more frame rate options.

Toggling output to the external monitor and back to the primary display by clicking the rocket button seems to be working here. It would be nice if the button would highlight orange if the external monitor was enabled or something. Or maybe put an "enabled" checkbox on the mode setting dialogue window, so we choose our output format and then whether or not it's enabled.

Also I thought it was mentioned before at some point, but the arrow keys seem to be funky. I can usually get the left arrow to nudge in reverse one frame at a time, the right arrow tends to not work at all or jump in multiple frame increments. Up/Down arrows do nothing. So I don't know what is planned for the keys, if it's supposed to work as it does in RedCine or not. I guess I'm just assuming that's the plan since the keys seem somewhat functional at this point...

Just spoke to Deanan, who said it is enabled and should be coming out of the upper connector through cable "1." Not working for me. As I said, I get green playback from the 720 setting but all others make the monitor say NO DVI CABLE. Tried on a DELL 2407 WFP which should be able to do it.

I've asked Deanan for clarification.

Well, here's a WTF for ya...

Can't get an image on three different DVI monitors now, the Dell 2007WFP and HP 24" both accept 1280x720, but won't display anything. The HP will take 1920x1200 or 1920x1080, but won't display anything from the Rocket. Nothing on the Dell 30" 3008WFP, but I'm chalking that up to it being finicky and whatnot.

However, I can get 1280x720 to display via HDMI (standard DVI to HDMI cable) on both a 19" Magnavox junk TV and a 32" Samsung LNS3251D. However, playback to both of these monitors has resulted in ROCKETCINE-X not responding. I play a second or so of the clip, it's jerky and then it freezes and I get the spinning beach ball until I force-quite. I have to shut down the computer (not just restart) to get my Rocket to function again.

...Going to restart now and try again. Have one log file, will get another to email to email to Deanan.

Well, crap... Can't duplicate the application hang, but I do have a log file from when it did hang itself.

New problem though. This time around, I'm getting 1080p signal out via the DVI to HDMI cable (looks great, too). Playback is fine when set to 1280x720 @ 59.94. When I go to 1080p and set to 29.97 (this display doesn't accept 23.98), it plays back the clip at the wrong speed. It plays back at ~30fps, so the clip ends while the timeline and timecode keep running on the screen. It's not visibly skipping any frames, just playing the video too fast.

I'm sending over both log files.

Right now it's either dvi/hdsdi or back to computer. If we try to do both at the same time we lose realtime capability. That may change as we try to figure out workarounds. DVI and HDSDI are live simultaneously if they both are running at the same raster.

-My Metadata is not coming in from the camera, I don't think. Is this supposed to be under Default or Metadata?

Metadata. It looks like colorspace and gamma space might have an issue with the metadata being set. Looking into it now.

-A little clunky when you bring a new clip in and have to "Set White Balance." If you're set on output via Rocket, a freeze of your last clip stays on your computer screen. So you have to disable Rocket, set white balance, and then enable Rocket to start grading.
This is currently true until we can get a parallel path working for the computer side.

-Rendering has sped up nicely. My test clip that is 458 frames (19 seconds) is down to :31 to export it as a ProRez422HQ. Very nice!
More speedups still to come...

-Looking forward to having audio. Much easier if you are setting Ins/Outs to hear the action call.
Agreed. Should happen as soon as we're done with the QT speedups.

-Love the new Exports panel and naming/destination settings. Awesome job in changing that.
Yea. multi-select and export and export all coming soon also.

Sounds great, Deanan! Thanks for the update. Look forward to the next build.
