  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Release It Already

Only because of the massive devastation and loss of life sustained in Japan.

But yeah, go ahead, be proud of your prediction.

Are you serious Kris? Can you explain how a tragedy as recent as this year would have delayed multiple projected release dates two years ago?
Anyways, with that being said I do appreciate the decision RED has made to not make unrealistic announcements.

You're not going to flip cars over and set the city on fire if Scarlet's not delivered soon right?

(Sorry, couldn't help it. Hockey reference for anyone wondering where that came from. All in good fun of course.)

Reference to last weeks riots in Vancouver after the Bruins won the Stanley Cup.

How was it in Boston after the game Steve? Sad to have missed it...

People were very well behaved. Over 1.5 million showed up on Saturday for parade. There's always bound to be a few troublemakers in any crowd that big, but overall, just a nice big celebration for a team that hadn't won in 39 years.

And for what it's worth, I'm sure most of the people in Vancouver are decent, and it was just a small segment that took the opportunity to wreak havoc on the city.

I still don't get it. What is RED waiting for?
Prototype still buggy, since... 5 years?

After showing off from year to year with the specs I think
it is time to release or just let it die.
It is not good marketing to bash other competitors, but having
no valuable product.

Maybe RED noted, that the Scarlet already lost market position,
due to Panasonic and Sony releases.

Yeah, I know..... Scarlet records in RAW! Yeah hey....

But I can have any camera with clean 4k HDMI out and record it direcly to HDD
with a losless compressor, which is even faster than the RED RAW codec.

As already mentioned months and years ago: Scarlet will never come.
Canon is already working on a new product, which is going to attack that Sony F3
for a much lower price. And all other are not slepping in meanwhile.

There is exciting in the air! :-)

With those opinions it doesn't sound like you ought to spend time on a forum called RedUser.

The new Red products haven't been released yet due to the tsunami in Japan earlier this year. As you probably know a lot of todays technology is being manufactured in Japan, and some of these manufactors have been affected by the tragedy that hit Japan. If you really want any of Red's upcoming cameras you should be willing to wait at least a few months more. A lot of people on this forum have been waiting since early 2008 - myself included. I have faith in Red and am willing to wait, because I believe the camera I eventually will buy (hopefully this year) will be worth the wait.

Where is such a camera for under $10k? All I find under $10k are HD video cameras recording 1080p on board to high compression AVCHD or similar low end codecs. There is no other 16mm/2/3" image sized raw camera out there in this price range except the Ikonoscope and it is still only 2k resolution with very expensive limited media and limited capabilities. No 35mm format cameras either. The aftermarket recorders in affordable price ranges similarly record encoded 1080p video, not raw anything, since there are no cameras that output raw motion image data in Scarlet's price range.

Fact is Red's approach to moderately priced affordable high resolution raw motion cameras, now going into its second generation after 5 years, are still unique in the market. No one else has stepped up to produce anything remotely similar. As Jim has said, if this were easy everybody would be doing it. It is not easy. The development time it is taking to get practical reliable affordable raw motion cameras to market with massive dedicated resources proves it.

If all one wants is an HD video camera of some kind then there are lots of options. If one wants a compact high resolution replacement for a 16mm film camera, with qualities that no comparably priced video camera approaches even after 5 years, then Scarlet is still worth waiting for.

I'm interested in where you found this information, just to indulge my curiosity.

It's from a magical land called "Trolls-ville" - send him back from whence he came!!!

There is a June 29 post on Canon rumors about an upcoming 4k camera from canon. Not much else, except it will be a video camera, not a DSLR.

No mention of pricing, or competing with the F3.

And of course this is just a rumor. That's why the site is called Canon rumors.

It's not only a rumor. Under $15k, possibly shooting to 422 10bit. 1080 with some kind of 4K option. 35mm sensor size. May have EF mount.
