So yeah, I'm glad we're all talking about a camera that hasn't come out yet (in such superb detail at that by the way; not really sure how that's possible)...can a RED official please just give us some kind of a release day or week or month? I mean y'all have said June, but here we are nearing August.

didnt you get your 4th of july scarlet package?
:emote_happyhappy:

when you have more than 1000 posts you should be able to see who has one scarlet already in his signature

James, there will be no Scarlets for sale in June, August or September. You'll get as many date estimates as there are users on this forum and RED isn't saying anything. My estimate is Q2 or mid 2011 for Scarlets to make it to market.

There are still lots of people on the forum who think Scarlets will make it to market by the end of this year though.

Realistically speaking I think we'll see Scarlet 2/3 fixed Q1 2011.

Scarlet S35, late 2011.

But of course, Scarlet S35 is a poor man's EPIC S35, so maybe it can come out a bit earlier.

Yes I read that post the day it was posted. It's one of the major reasons people continue to think that Scarlets will be here by the end of the year.

I've also read all the other posts in previous years about when the Scarlets will be available. It's one of the major reasons I continue to think that Scarlets will absolutely not be here by the end of the year.

Add to that, the low end of the market is coming up near Scarlet's level at a blisteringly fast pace. Which means RED is spending a bunch of time and energy on the crowded low end of the market, and competing for a shrinking share of that crowded market.

Every morning that I wake up and RED hasn't cancelled the Scarlet or announced a major price bump,.. I stand in amazement.

I've been playing with canons 5d and seeing the new panasonic 4/3rds camera. The dslrs make nice images but still leave lots to be desired compared with what Scarlet will offer. I think Red would sell tons of them right now. In a year, I think it will depend on what Canon does with it's momentum and what Sony does to counter what Canon does.

I think the Pro Sony 35mm sensored video camcorder briefly shown at NAB will be in a much higher price tag than the Panasonic. I think they'll priced it around $15000-$20000 (since the EX3 is priced at $9999). I also think that the sensor resolution would be better than in a DSLR. It will be a better sensor I think.

Anyway, it seems obvious that Canon will follow Panasonic in creating a camcorder with one of its DSLR sensor. With the benefit of the "new" 422 codec they have in camcorders such as the XF305, it can make a great piece of video camera for low budget productions which can't afford hardware and/or time to use RAW.

Anyway, I don't know why but I fell that the Scarlet 2/3 sensor will surprise us. (not to mention all the benefits of RAW we all know about^^).

I'm sure RED will give us a release date when they feel they can do so with reasonable confidence (or, maybe they'll just say... now shipping :) ) They have admitted to being bad about meeting their dates, so they are understandably not too keen on posting dates until they feel they can do so more concretely

Until then... stay tuned, I guess... Buy a camera if you need one... don't if you don't.

Hope you don't mind, i'm going to close this thread, for fear that it will do little more than get the rumor mill flowing again with everyone's purely speculative guesses.

When RED knows, I'm sure we will know pretty soon after.

later,
Jason
