  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Reel 17 - Stock work over the last couple of years.

Lovely work Mark. Can I buy these through an agency such as Getty?

The are available at the major agencies, such as Dissolve, Pond5, Getty Etc. Some are so new however that they haven't gone live yet. Thanks

Hi Mark,

I always wondered how you arrange payment with talent when shooting for stock.
Any advice you can give?

Kind regards,

Mario

Mario, we always pay up front when we obtain our talents services. But sometimes they get paid again if their image is used in a SAG project. I love it when that happens, it keeps the talent happy.

I have an insane back catalogue of footage, I've always wondered about going the stock route. How do you find it? Monetarily worthwhile?

I have to be honest, it’s a numbers and quality game. You need a lot of content in the marketplace to have a steady income. In stock we talk in the revenue per image, per year (RPI) language. If your clips are fairly widely distributed then the RPI can be in the $30-$50 per year range. I have film makers I distribute for on a world wide basis and those just starting out with a few hundred clips make a little extra cash over the year. Collections that are big, in the few thousand clips range, obviously do better. Of course it helps if the subject matter and quality are on point too.
