  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RedWideGamutRGB: discuss!

Any idea if this issue is related to Dragon Color? This was shot 2k ProRes only at Dragon Color/RedLogFilm on the Epic-W. Wanted to make you aware of this too Graeme if you hadn't seen this before?

I've not seen that before. It doesn't look colour space related.

Graeme

Strange. Here's another shot with some strange coloring, same settings and same day. The light behind his head.

Hard to tell with you shooting pro res. If you had an R3D I could tell you for sure.

Graeme

That'd be most apreciated.

I'm getting some weird banding low quality with the existing third party LUT. Does anyone have a high quality 3D Lut that does the job good until we get the official one?

Not sure if you've seen the saturation rolloff LUT I was working on, but it was built to maintain a high level of image quality (there's a size 32 & 64 .cube available):

You will need to add your own display LUT though, or you can use RED's official REDgamma4 curves:

If you use the curves in red cinex pro. Does that not transform to premiere anymore in premiere 2017? Seams like i have a bug. Anybody else experience this. I have only tried 2017 very briefly, but seams to be some kind of bug. Its nice to finally have RWG and Log3G10/12 thoe.

If you've imported into Premiere already, and then toyed with the look in RCX after-the-fact... it does not update in Premiere automatically. You have to hit the little button to reload the look for each clip. Is this possibly what you're noticing?

Hi, it is reloaded. I will give more info after furher testing. Thought It might been a common bug.

Possibly silly question:

I understand RWG and the log curves. This will allow me to extract the whole camera colour and light out from a R3D, no problem there. And if LUTs are to be used or created then starting with RWG is the most sensible option.

But working in general with Red Footage are we expecting to see HeliumColor options like we do for Dragon? With or without new RedGamma options?

I've assumed so, but not actually remember reading anything for sure?

Many thanks
Paul

Graeme, what is the "status" of the current version of RWG/LOG3G10? As in, if we were to begin grading with it, would we need to be worried about potential future updates to the science that could affect our ongoing work?

Status is good. The current REDCine-X and SDK is the reference there. What is being worked on are the transforms from RWG/Log3G10 out to what people want to view.

Graeme

I'll have to download and see. I'll see if I can do that this evening and report back.

Graeme

Thanks, Graeme. I'll send you an email by tomorrow re: the status of our tests. We are very interested in pushing RWG/LOG3G10 on one of our features. The benefits of the expanded colour space really open up some nice doors.

That's great Simran. Looking to hearing from you on that.

Graeme

RWG and RG10 are accesible in 12.5.3, I am just not sure if it is the very latest version.
