  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RedWideGamutRGB: discuss!

It's in the latest release of RCX, but I don't think it is fully implemented in Resolve yet.

To really see it in resolve you can export DPX files from RCX.

That is not accurate. It is in Resolve as of version 12.5.2. There is no viewing LUT (i.e., for Rec709, P3, etc.) included, but the color space transforms are already integrated.

There was an update to RG10 the gamma space in RCX that has not been implemented in resolve.

AP1 is too narrow in places and clips with sensor data. RWG is designed with Red sensor data in mind, not data from any other camera and thus can take into account how the Red cameras actually work.

I'm getting some weird banding low quality with the existing third party LUT. Does anyone have a high quality 3D Lut that does the job good until we get the official one?

12 is indeed a bit flatter encoding 2 stops more than 10. 12 is deprecated. 10 is good for going forwards.

Banding in LUTs is usually because of some precision issues in the rendering. Make sure whatever you're using is using tetrahedral interpolation. Trilinear is not really suitable for RGB cubes.

Photoshop's 3D LUT support works well and looks to be tetrahedral. Resolve gives you the option of trilinear or tetrahedral.

Hmm, I'm seeing most banding in redcine actually. But I'm using a third party LUT I got from this thread, so it might not have enough resolution. I saw someone having a kind of RGW to Alexa LUT, but I'm not sure how to get hold of it. However, I'm rather waiting for your official LUT ;) do we have any preliminary date for it?

REDCine was using trilinear. It's moving to tetrahedral. Christoffer - drop me an email.

Thanks for the info Graeme. Does that mean that everytime I'm in Resolve, using RWB/3G10 color space, I always set the project color management to "tetrahedral interpolation" for the 3D LUT?

Tetrahedral is just better for RGB cubes. If you're using a cube that does any kind of colour space conversion (say REC2020 to REC709, or RWG to REC709) I'd always go with tetrahedral. What tetrahedral does nicely is to interpolate primarily along the black-grey-white axis meaning it doesn't do unwanted hue shifts on neutrals. Trilinear is always interpolating across that axis so any lack of precision can manifest as grey scale tones taking on subtle hue shifts.

I think you're going to enjoy it Jacob!
