  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDVOLTS vs RED BRICKS

Volts, handheld and speed ease of use. WIN WIN WIN. Think like a hand held DSLR its sweet. Not great on duration depending on how your fan is set and how you record, your times may vary but im getting like over half an hour per maybe.

Bricks kick but in how long they last, can be tricky in how you mount it but thats only improving as more and more mounting options come out.

I use both.

Volts are a lot easier to travel with, especially with airline battery restrictions. The size and weight of the volts just can't be beat. Some will say the lower runtime of the volts isn't as useful on a big shoot, but in my opinion once the battery modules and quad chargers come out this won't be an issue. The volts are hot swappable and drain in sequence in the modules, meaning you can just replace a dead one whenever it's convenient to you and you never have to power down. With bricks you have another cable to worry about on your rig and the V-mount itself was never a favorite of mine. Upside to the bricks? People already have a lot of them.

I've used both and while I think there will be a small window of growing pains until the modules and chargers come out, in 6 months I won't bs using bricks at all on my Epic. This is just my perspective; your milage may vary. :)
 
I love my bricks. Runtime is awesome.

Volts will be great for stills and when battery modules are released - neither of these are happening yet - so it is all bricks all the time for me.

I just hope RED doesn't EOL the bricks...since replacement battery plates are no longer sold in the store.
 
Bricks at 1:45 - has that time length increased over bricks on an R1?
 
DId a comprehensive test yesterday in fact...

Over all the ReD Volts are 4 times smaller in size and hence you get on 1/4 the time.

On set with many helpers... I'm sticking with V locks. 1.5 to 2 hours, you cant beat that.
Somebody else can carry them next to me when Im shooting hand held.. Or I clip them onto my belt.

I estimate Ill go through at least 12 to 14 per normal shoot day. (if there was no place to charge them up)

On a small 1 to 3 man gig... RED VOLTS all the way baby!
