  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDvolts don't fully charge

I know this is an old thread and I am sure I am not the only one left still using the REDVOLTs.

During a shoot with my Scarlet and Ronin, I had to juggle six of them and it wasn't a great experience.

On average I am getting 60% and one is 50% and another at 71%.

I def will purchase more and it'll have to be used ones since its not available at RED store.

I will just buy a Ronin cable for the RED just in case.

REDVOLTs and REDVOLTXLs are a bit tricky i think. You def should give them a "refresh" before a shoot, because they will lose a good amount of power over time. If i have the time i put them into the cam and let them run dry, then give them a full charge. Without enough time i just put them into the charger the day before shooting.

Also, that percentage and time info on your camera should be treated as rough guessing. It's not perfectly accurate, only taking the time via a stopwatch shows the truth. That way i found out that i had batteries showing 80% and some 98%, but both were freshly charged and gave almost the same runtime.

New batteries, or those that haven't been used for a while, could need a few cycles to get back to their full power.

All in all, juggling the little ones can become a bit annoying, but on the other hand they're still the smallest and lightest way to power a motherfucking awesome RED-camera. ;)
I wouldn't want to use just one of them at a time as main source anymore. If REDVOLT then with the DUAL Battery module (+Sidehandle), but XLs on the back are much better.

I hope to see new versions of those batteries, the system is still simply the best for RED.

I picked up a few fresh RVs and they start north of 80.

For what I do it does the job for now.

Thanks for the input :)
