  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDVOLT + REDVOLT travel charger

Hey Mark,

recently shot some spots with them and we were shooting 120fps all day with 4 and was just a little tight. If i had to say 6-8 would easily do the trick in a production day. I currently have 4 and I've ordered an additional four to be safe. that said, it would be nice to see that quad charger sometime soon...

I got 8 redvolts and a charger sat in customs, delivery monday.

20 - 30 min? I seem to remember being told 90min to an hour at NAB. What am I missing here?

Educate me please...

Jay

Edit: Ok I read some posts and got educated.. Sounds like the REDVolts are use specific. If you need to run for a LONG time, then larger batteries or AC power will do just fine. And I hear the larger batteries do really well now. So that's cool too.

3 hours, give or take, on a RED Brick. One charger and 3 RED Bricks will operate an EPIC all day, no problem. Most the time I can get by with two bricks (lunch break allows charging to catch up), even in 100-degree outdoor heat and sun.

REDVOLTS will be nice once we get the battery module, but what kills them for me now is the charge time and the single travel charger. More looking forward to the REDVOLT-XL batteries....

If I'm not mistaken, the Scarlet draws less power than the Epic and so naturally the batteries will last longer. I vaguely remember hearing that the REDVOLTS would run up to an hour on the Scarlet... so perhaps that's where that came from.

There are 2 REDVOLTS remember.. the little ones and the XL ones. The XL ones will run 90 minutes in the perfect situation when you are using no accessories and low frame rates... so don't count on that being normal. You likely will see around 30 minutes per normal REDVOLT and an hour on a XL.. but that all depends on what you are doing, if you are using an onboard monitor or SDI monitor, etc. etc. etc.

Get a power strip and four travel chargers and whalla, you have a quad charger. : )

Of course I'd love to have at least one travel charger, I have four Redvolts and no charger.

This may have been answered before, but will the batter module have any sort of power output on them like d-tap or something?

Wait what? They just sent you the batteries? Whats the point of that?

I bought a new car! Just waiting on the key though.... :emote_whack:

You can order just the batteries on the online store, Tim. The chargers aren't yet available there. Many people are ordering ahead of time to make sure they have sufficient quantity while they know there is stock.

Plus, I imagine they make rather inspirational little paper weights.

...and violla!

Okay, "Viola" in Italian means Purple, but needs one one "L" he he

In french I think you wanted to say "voilà" ... ;)

Its fun to be the one correcting some one else.. for once he he.

OH, unless you are saying it in your language... in which case... oh well, forgive me.. ;)

Good one Ketch, in French, the correct spelling is "voilà", translation for "viola" would be "raped"...

gotta chime in to say what a MIRACLE the the REDVolts and travel charger are -

this charger is tiny!

comparable to Sony Z1U or Canon XH A1 charger size, so easily stuffed in a backpack - which means power for the road.

and the REDVolt battery size means you can tuck these into the corners of your backpack or carrying case, not a possibility with the old RED batts - you can more easily carry 3 travel chargers than you could carry a single RED ONE charger.... size = packing flexibility

there is a greatly increased level of efficiency to moving these batts and chargers...it's hard to believe that these itty bits power the most powerful digital cinema camera in the world...

the size and scale of these things - and the portability - is truly revolutionary.

Makes sense I guess. I just don't have the patients to have a few RedVolts sitting there while I wait for the charger. How do you guys do it? lol

I don't think so Mark, unless RED Engineers pool a Rabbit out of the Hat on that one, the Redvolt XL would due bigger,
as much as TWO REDVOLTS and will then absolutely not fit the side grip were only the standard REDVOLT already fits supper snap on.

But we always love surprises, don't we?... ;)
