I charged two redvolts today, when I stuck them in the side Handel each one red between 75-78% charged. The UI says they have about a 30 minute lifespan but only charged to 75%. The three little LED lights on the battery are lighting up. So is the camera not reading the batteries right or is there something wrong with the actual battery? I know for sure one of the batteries was completely drained when placed it on the charger.

thanks

tommy

That describes my experience with RedVolts (all 8 of them) to a T, I assumed it's just the way things are so long as I get my 25 or so minutes of use per battery.

I have 4 Redvolts. In over two years of having them I have never ever seen them charge passed 80%. These days when I stick one in the side handle I get 50% to 60% which really only lasts 15 minutes. My dream product (if nothing else) would be a Redvolt V2 that lasts at least double what the current one does and can still be fully charged after months of use. I don't know why this hasn't happened yet. There are so many of us who want to keep the camera as small and as light as possible.

Six Redvolt XLs and four Redvolts, none of them ever showed anywhere near full charge. I'm also on my second Quad charger, which is also failing.

As a test guys, actually time with a watch the time it takes to when the camera shuts down. You may find that the indicator simply is wrong.

Out of the 4 REDVOLTs I have - the two "better" ones (that hold around 80% when fully charge) can run the camera for 20 min (+/- 2 min depending on the format / frame-rate).
I have tested (and filmed) this as part of my side-V-lock mount development. The other two are not even worth mentioning...

Was about to post something like this myself. After upgrading to Dragon, all four of my REDVOLTs only show an 85% charge when used. Then the power to the camera shuts down at 10%. I've only owned them for under a year and they maybe had 30 charge cycles each. Not sure if it's the battery or the camera...

Maybe the newest camera firmware will change things up.

It is possible that the cells used to make up the battery sat on a shelf for an extended period before being sold to Red by a subvendor. Another option is the charger may be kicking them off charge a bit too soon. This may have been intentional for safety reasons. I will see if i can verify this with my multimeter. I know the worst possible thing you can do to shorten their lives is to leave them fully charged for long periods. Leaving them charged in high temps is even worse, say like in a 140 degree car for example. If treated well you should get 400 or so charge cycles from them.
