  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RedUsers.net's most hated word!

LINGO

"retarded" - makes me question the IQ/age/intelligence/evolutionary level of the poster
"awesome" - same
"BadAss" - are you nine?

"woohoo - hell of a ride" - same with some Rupert Pupkin thrown in.

"I bet Sony/Canon/Nikon/North Korea is quaking in their boots at the new Red/Scarlet/Epic. We Love you Jim! You Da Maaaan!" - Usually poster follows by "I've purchased a 5d/7d/D90 instead and it looks great!!!" - Remember Mark Chapman started out as a fan of John Lennon (Fan being a contraction of Fanatic)

"I've made one Billion / googolplex posts on this forum" - this is not something to be proud of necessarily, I picture you in a bell tower, with a bolt action, picking off pedestrians.

Trying to work the word RED or SCARLET into their logos/avatars/life. It's a camera not a religion. (shades of Jim Jones/Jonestown - don't drink the cool-aid)

BEHAVIOUR -

The people who post something on a public forum and then when they don't like the answer they receive reply with "who the hell asked you your opinion?" - Well, you did, actually. Otherwise talk to the mirror if you just want validation. Its a forum for opinions - expect them not to all agree with yours.

Casually rude or disparaging answers to people who ask a simple polite question - usually by Reduser addicts:

"try the search engine...."
"no"
etc...

- not everybody lives on Reduser.net - have you ever used the search engine here? Cars and the internet seem to bring out the same bad manners in people when they are insulated from others. I'm often amazed people expend the energy to type something so useless and negative. The mind boggles.

People complaining about the cost of the cameras/accessories etc - How quickly we've come from "Wow - this is amazing - a 35mm sensor camera for under $30,000" to "I want an IMAX sized Scarlet with all the bells and whistles for $1.53 cents - Jim, buddy, don't tread on my dreams by restricting the cheaper models - that would be unconstitutional /like canon/ like sony/ like Hitler. We love you Jim - we know you won't let us down" etc. Fade up a Billy Joel song about sticking together - Emotional blackmail. Red is a business.

Posts that belittle and simply agitate - "Canon Red Test!!!! It's Official - Canon sucks - Game over!!!!" - Grow up a little.

ON THE PLUS SIDE HOWEVER -

I always like the way Leo signs off "Good shooting and best regards" - Old school manners. I like that.
I notice David Mullen is always very generous with his time and knowledge to everybody and delivers it ego-free. Always good, level-headed advice too.
All the good info that many have shared on the site - IR contamination, Hot Mirror tests, Lens issues explored (field illumination on digital sensors with Film lenses), Filter issues (ghosting), OPLF dots etc. Lots of people very generous with info and time.

We are all learning to work with digital and it has been a great resource.

Oh yeah, lastly...

People Who Type The First Word In Every Sentence With A Capital Letter - It's Exhausting To Read And To Type So please stop.

Best to all.

Please let's not make this another complain threat about what is wrong with the forum :)

I started this just out of interest and awareness towards speech. Specially peer group speech.

But just to be fair: I'll start another thread for REDUSER.NET's most loved word ;)

"amazing" - just as second post :biggrin5:

I vote for "but Jim said"... and not referring to "everything is subject to change".

Jim

And then when you do say "everything has changed" people blow it way out of proportion. "Wait, does this mean that Scarlet's prices have just suddenly sky rocketed?! I'm never going to get Scarlet!"

Granted I am shamefully in the category (it was a rough day, gimme a break) but its still annoying.

Also the people who are like "Wow, you're on this forum again? Its just a camera. I swear you're obsessed. Get your actual work done!"

...Oh wait, nobody on this forum says that. I was thinking about what my girlfriend says that annoys me. My bad. :leaving:

If you purchase a company's products, you are a customer. On the other hand, one who designs and/or fabricates costumes is a costumer. Please make a note of it.

Actually, it's grammatically correct to use "film" or "filming" despite no film being used in the process.
By that logic, I could say driving when riding a bike, running when taking a walk, and mowing when weed-eating. It's more grammatically correct to use the right verb, in my opinion.

"The right tool for the right job."

"These are just tools."

I got it the first few thousand times I heard it. :)

My all-time favorite from living on the internet bubble - "secret sauce"

"Our secret sauce will be the webanalyticals that will allow our best of breed bleeding edge pure play brick and click to cover all modalities while plucking the low-hanging fruit."

I really hate to jump in on these things but here goes...

"The forums are really serving as the manuals."
That's great, but about 1% of the people on the forums really know what they are talking about so I'd rather not wade through 1000 posts of mindless drivel from fanboi's and people blowing smoke up each other's skirts just to find out what the torque should be on the bolts on the camera when they started coming loose on my car rig this afternoon.

IMHO

IMHO you're all a buncha Hoochie Mamas. ;) haha

but seriously. we're glad you're humble. we already know it's your opinion, so let's at least use something that slightly resembles intelligible language and comprehensible sentence structure.

Just my tuppence.

Oh yeah, that one too. (or two-cents, 2¢, $0.02)
I mean, at least give me a dollar...

I vote for the word "delay". A close second phrase is "encountered a problem". I also understand how lucky we are to actually hear them, vs not ever knowing why.
