RedUser Requests for Adobe

I just want to second this and thank David for coming on board.
Just a note to all those who have posted requests and suggestions in other threads, please repost only suggestions, requests and feature enhancements here. The idea is to get all your suggestions in the one place. It will make it easier for David to keep track of things.
Any suggestions you have that can enhance CS5 video editing, grading, export, fx... etc are welcome.. please remember to be as specific as you can with your requests as it will avoid any misunderstandings.

Till

Till I agree with you on keeping the postings clean and clear. I have been a bad repeat poster, so I stayed away from flooding this thread as I know Adobe is aware of my needs.

Hello Dave,

Thanks for asking.

I bought CS4 because of the addition of R3D native support and the promise of ongoing support.

It was the lack of cs4 updates that was super frustrating. Only build 18 was supported for the longest time, I don't have exact figures, but months and months went by where the only choice for ingest was to trans-code because CS4 wasn't updated to work with several iterations of newer release builds and then a major change to the color science.

I was told by Adobe reps that you'd keep up with the camera builds, and frankly you folks dropped the ball. I'm a software guy, ran lots of big teams, Apple, Microsoft, etc. so I get that we are not going to get instantaneous turn around, it's going to take some time. But you folks were stuck in neutral for ages, and I could never get a strait answer about updates. What finally happened was the "wait for CS5" mantra.

Stability, particularly of Encore has also been an issue.

I'm on the fence about moving to CS5 or just sticking with FCP because of this.

Again thanks for asking, that in and of itself is a positive sign. And I truly appreciate the new presence on the forum, that is great.

All the best,

Steve
Steve,

As a former CS4 guy myself, I sympathize. But let me tell you, CS5's move to the 64-bit Mercury engine is a game changer. The performance of CS5 simply could not be achieved with CS4. So, while ADOBE perhaps could have done better keeping up with the likes of RED color science in CS4, the use of all the extra addressable RAM of 64-bit CS5 and GPU-accelerated effects makes this a must-have upgrade - especially for RED users. Even without GPU acceleration, native .r3d files run much better than in CS4. So, unlike CS4, this time it's well worth the price of the upgrade.

- a way to import sequences only and not the whole project..

This is already supported, you should get a dialog box to select a sequence when you import a prproj

- support for all quicktime codecs.. hdv, etc, and not only prores..

What dod you mean here? We fully support QT in both AE and Mediacore. Many formats we decode natively faster than QT can do it.

Cheers

Dave

Thanks Dave..

Sorry if I mentioned a supported feature..

I mean HDV captured files from FCP and Apple intermediate codec.. and the support of them on windows platform..
I'll test the files again by Saturday..

Sorry, but AIC is crap when compared to ProRes, and it never was ported to PC.
ProRes is supported for playback on PC, just no encoding there.

HDV files should work fine and even faster in a future release... AIC works fine on mac but ask apple about windows support...

1. The ability to add comments to clip markers, not just sequence markers. Not being able to comment on clip markers is a huge problem for doc editing.
2. The freedom to choose my own scratch disk, internal or external. Unless I'm missing something obvious, PPro won't let me chose my 4GB fiber drives because they are removable. This is a game breaker for me. I won't switch to PPro if I can't have complete control over where my files go.

I just tested HDV files captured on final cut pro and they do not work.. same as cs4.. I searched the internet and all I got as a solution is a codec called calibrated xd decode..
you mean they'll work on a future release.. or they already work and will be faster on the future release?

one another thing I would like to request in the interface of the app.. the mini audio meter.. please for god's sake make it able to change to horizontal view instead of only vertical.. so one can put beside the tools panel on the top or bottom..

right now you will need FCP components installed. We won't need that in the future...

Okay, we have had an increase in Red-MX work, so we have to purchase Red Rockets. I just hope that PPro Supports multiple Rockets out the Door.

Some form of a batch browser/viewer like clipfinder. I have no idea how I am supposed to actually edit without being able to quickly view my files. I need to be able to load days (full files of clips) at a time. Having to browse each clip folder is killing me.

Workaround:

Create bin> use Windows to search .r3d in desired folder. > drag/drop

Mackie Universal Control Protocol in Premiere. You should be able to use motorized mixers to control audio faders in Premiere. Audition had it so you've already got the code somewhere.

You can actually drag and drop the main folder and all the files will be imported, even the ones that are inside secondary folders. Lets say you have a main folder called "MAIN" and you have there two folders "DAY ONE" and "DAY TWO". Inside each of them you have other folders like "Morning" "Noon" "Evening" with different shots of the day. If you drag and drop "MAIN" all R3D files inside that folder will be imported, but you will loose the hierarchy inside Premiere. If the hierarchy is important to you, make two bins inside Premiere called "DAY ONE" and "DAY TWO" then drag "Morning" "Noon" "Evening" folders to each of them..
