REDUSER NAB 2009 - The Official Thread

Outstanding event last night!

I had a terrific time, but missed the tiramisu...

Steve, I didn't get to meet you, but I think you did a fantastic job organizing. Great party! I learned a lot.

Cheers to all!

Some of the RPPs are bigger than the Scarlet body!

Never mind, that is not what I meant, internal designers at Red should know what I mean.

Thanks again for contributing to the event with your graphic design. I used it for the posters which we had placed throughout the hotel. Unfortunately they were gone when the event finished up. I was hoping to have one sent to you. I'll see about having another one made up.

Should be great! Thanks

However, the next time I will come in person to take one.

Thanks Steve

Thanks Steve

Thanks Steve. You worked hard and I benefited. Every time I hang around you, I get taken to a place I never would have got to on my own. Thanks. M

Ketch, if the filmmaking thing doesn't work out for you, you might have found your calling...

He he, thanks Erik, this means that you and your lovely Lady enjoy my Tirami Su'.

But since I left my cooking carrier long time ago for Photography and Filmmaking, I hope I don't have to go back to it :)

ciao

Yes, the RED User party was way cool...

Thanks for all the hard work by RED Team, Steve, etc. in putting the event on.

The new RED Reel was very impressive, the RPP projection was "jaw dropping" good, the materials, action, and finish of the RPP are really top-drawer for sure, the RED Ray sneaker demo of the RED Reel really stoked the crowd, and it was super-cool to see the stuff around the perimeter of the room from ET, Silverado, MAXX, Mike Hastings, Birger, OffHollywood, and others.

We were super-happy we went to the party...

We are considering this type of event going forward vs. a booth in the halls of NAB. Thoughts from those that went?

I personally think that this form of presentations is so much better and more personal then NAB could ever be, even so I truly enjoyed last year NAB @ the RED Booth, this year was just that much better, so for me I'm all up to do this again, and I might even fly in from Italy to make the Tirami Su' again :)

While I was unable to attend this year, I must say the community aspect of RED as a company makes me believe the more community oriented nature of the Reduser party vs. NAB floor booth will always be the preferred way to approach NAB.

I've heard nothing but rave reviews from my friends who were actually able to attend!

As someone who did not attend nab I preferred this format, as I was able to stream the whole event and have yet to be able to track down footage from the floor. However when I first found out about RED a year and a half ago it was the nab booth interviews on youtube that got me up to speed to understand what red was trying (and succeeding) to do. Much as it is in our favour for things to go towards parties I would have thought that the newcomers (those who don’t post here) would rather the fast pitch at a booth and are more likely to take a gamble walking into a booth than finding a party. Just something to think about.

Hi David and welcome to REDUSER,

while I understand your point, I believe that the goal for this community is to make it just that a community of users, and camera owners or looking to be owners, and the news to those interested in purchasing a Digital camera, will get to them asap as they do a search for what camera they want to get, I believe that no one will ever buy a camera on this state of age w/o searching and researching the net for info on the various models available, that was how I found out about RED few years ago.

And events such as that just past, brings every one together and it is done so in an environment of great comfort with all at your finger tips, there is a Bar there is plenty of food (free) and even so I personally can't eat Buffet style foods, every one there sure did and didn't had to go hungry for the all day as many do at NAB or take a quick brake to the nasty fast food court.

There is so much more space and time to get to know the goods as well as to get to know each other, and strengthening relationships, both among users and with manufacturers of the products to use with the Cameras.

Which was delightful. Thanks Ketch! It was a nice event, and I enjoyed the presentations that I was able to see. Nice to talk to people and have a larger venue for Red specific things. I'd welcome a similar exhibition again.

Jim,

Holding the event separate from NAB is better, more time to visit with those truly interested in seeing RED develop. The presentation room was almost full at first, then slowly dwindled down as folks left to go mingle, see the vendors, etc. It was very nice to see the Scarlet and Epic prototypes, the lens booth (remarkable), the vendors (I was amazed at that crazy orange MOCO rig) and finally the great presentations. The only problem was missing some of the presentations because folks were enjoying themselves visiting with one another. I had a secret hope that RED was going to surprise everyone with a set of lenses for the raffle, or maybe a single lens. It was a bit strange having an employee win a prize, but to quote Seinfeld, "Not that there's anything wrong with that". Same thing happened as last year, several folks kept winning over and over again. Might want to figure out a way to spread the fun like the Final Cut User Group did, one win per person.

Steve did a great job organizing everything and it was very good to see such a strong showing from RED. That gives us, the customers, comfort knowing the company really does care and stand behind their products. Maybe a word or two from you next time, perhaps, just to add to the excitement?

A very nice event, all the way around.

If I had the choice between a RedUser event like Wednesday's or a NAB booth, I would attend the RedUser event every time.

Seeing the reel kick off the show and being told that it was actually Red Ray was the perfect way to begin. Totally took me by surprise. It was also great to eat Ketch's Tiramisu and meet Jim for the first time.
