  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDuser Event Pictures (Working EPIC!&%!!)

Interesting. There is a picture on another thread that it has the LCD connector flaped to the other side.

post. 33. Interesting. I wonder which one will be the final

I am pretty sure the one towards the front is the latest. Possibly final... ? We'll see.

It seems like a good idea going towards the front with a 90 degree connector on the CF module end.

ok so red station has fw 800 .. but ive heard multiple times its not fast enough and you need sata

so can you use fw800 on an imac for redcode with scarlet or do u think it will need an upgrade to pro ?

Depends what you're doing. I did a lot of my early Red work with FW400 and USB on a Macbook. Not even a Macbook Pro.

The new iMacs can definitely handle Redcode, just not as quickly as a MacPro could.

Jim and Jarred both say the Scarlet is only trailing the EPIC by two months... from what Stage of the Epic, we don't know

Thanks Zac! That is great news. Hopefully an early stage! Fingers crossed...

Any idea when the Gunner will be shipping?

I am really starting to lean towards the red Handle now. Originally I was thinking red mote (550) scarlet module adapter (300) and battery module (1250) for a total of about 2100 dollars

now its looking more like just the red handle for 950

my only concern is that there is no end cap or anything for the back of the brain. I would be worried about those connectors getting damaged at some point before i add extra modules and or the module adapter, not to mention that the end of the brain would look kind of shitty i think with a handle and no redmote, module, or at least cap on the back (i think thats why all the prototypes that have handles also have the redmote on them too)

Finally got back after my 11 hour RED Binge, Steve did a great job pulling it all together, hope he gets the much needed rest tonight.

Had an Awesome time meeting guys on REDuser I've always you know, in a way..... looked up too?

KETCH ROSSI!
Mark P.
Michael Cioni (such an awkward run in to, just was walking towards me and blurted out something in the form of "Hey Michael, I'm a fan"
Jay Kelley (Man, if you need someone to flip out about causing trouble, he's your man )

Fun times, lots of pictures that I can upload, once I sift through them.

Now some sleep could be necessary

If you're talking about firewire, you're talking about offloading footage. I'm not sure what you're going to be shooting - most not fast enough comments are DITs on bigger jobs where every minute counts. If your workflow is more relaxed, or you're not offloading on set then FW800 should be just fine. Just don't expect miracles, FW800 is fast, but an iMac mostly is a not-so-portable macbook.

For other purposes your iMac may be okay or not. You can try that yourself, right now. Just download some sample r3d files from these forums, redcine-x and play with that. I've found that it works reasonably well on my Mid '07 iMac with the 4K footage, so scarlet/3K should go smoother still.

Looks like one of the only manufacturers left that is worthy of RED is OConnor.

Nice CFF-1 follow focus on the monster build along with proper camera support…

I noticed that too. The CFF-1 is the only non-Red product I have on my "Must Have Now" list.

B2pro and Brent the man behind it's curtains, have been solid RED advocates for some time. This interaction between the companies was only a matter of time.

Can't stress enough the amazing benifit if the remote does remote follow focus. I guess you can always pick it up later for a given project, and if your lens is not the fixed with power, or something like that.... But Handheld work, Remote Follow Focus FTW!

Redrock announced (again) an amazingly priced RFF unit coming soon.

uuuuuhhh, this redrock microRemote is very hot !!!
now i´m glad not to sit in this viewfactor train...

The viewfactor look really nice, the redrock microRemote looks quite strange, but in honesty, for people going the Red route I don't see an advantage here.

Now you've got to worry about charging your iPhone (or the other options they seem to have) & whatever is powering the motors? The redrock also has a base station it appears? Personally, no thank you. I still have to put rings on the lens, I still have to have all this crap in the way when I want to change the lens OR adjust the zoom on a zoom lens. (For my lenses).

For cameras with no other options, I can certainly understand, or with full manual lens, but the functionality of the red electronic follow focus just seems superior to me. That coupled with the 'touch to focus', its seems it is REALLY going to revolutionize the speed of a camera with follow focus and setting up rack focus points.

Anything I can do to save time on set is a win to me. As soon as I get my Scarlet, you can GUARANTEE that my follow focus is going to be up on eBay stat.
