Hi everyone,

My Name is Kit and I am DIT-ing a shoot right now and we have run into an issue with a RED Ram drive where the ram says it is not readable by the computer when plugged in. We put the drive back in the camera and it showed up as "unformatted." It seems to not be able to be read by any computer, however it was working fine an hour before.
We have tried to use the REDUndead program however we can't seem to make any headway.
After putting in all the information It seems to recognize the clip but gives the error:
Found File: A203_C001_1106ME_001.R3D
Could not create /Users/admin/Dektop/REDundead/

Are you running the program in administrative mode, so you have the rights to create that folder? I've never used it, just wondering if that is the issue.

Good Luck,

Bill

I'm assuming your computer is running the admin account and you've created a Redundead folder on the desktop? Ie. you haven't just copied the line from the redundead manual.

Seems obvious but make sure your computer account etc (the same name as your house icon) ec are all correct.

Then it should work.....

If you're unsure about using red undead command lines, or like me aren;t unix compatible at the moment etc (and have $80 and a credit card) you could buy/download a copy of r3d data manager for mac which has a front end for red undead (ie, set input and output folder with GUI). How much is the shot worth? That said I muddled through without R3DDM the one time I used it, but it makes life easier..

how did you write the commond line?Is your user name admin?Did you creat a folder called REDundead on desktop? Redundead is powerful, I met the same situation before, you will be fine.

Kit,

have you tried to drag and drop your destination folder into terminal?

best wishes,
martin

I'm using REDundead for the first time today and going through the documentation.

It does say that it won't work if the computer doesn't recognize the drive, which is a different problem than corrupt media.

So maybe spend time trying to get it mounted instead of REDundead. If you actually mount the drive you may find the data is fine.

Best of luck!

From the manual:

SITUATIONS WHEN REDUNDEAD WILL NOT RECOVER FILES
The following are situations where REDundead will not recover damaged files:
• When RED-DRIVE, RED-RAM and/or REDFLASH is reformatted AND then used to record new media (if there are existing R3D files NOT recorded over, they can be recovered, however any files recorded over will be lost.)
• If the drive/and or card is not recognized by the computer after connecting to computer via firewire, USB, etc... (the computer does not read or display the drive as being connected and available.)
