We're in the process of moving 14 years of video files from my local machine to a central server for everyone to have access to.
The problems? My organization skills suck and i never delete files...
there are redundant video files all over the hard drive... BUT... they are in different formats... i.e. filmed on a sony camera .mts file, converted to .mov with compressor to work in final cut 7, reconverted three years later from the original .mts file to proRes through final cut X...
that's just one example of my convoluted workflow... hey... i was flying by the seat of my pants...
but.. now... that we have a great understanding of the proper way to work in the video environment, we're stuck cleaning up my 14 year old mess...
are there any apps designed to sort through hard drives and find duplicate video files with different data rates, file sizes, and file names?
probably not... but... worth a shot.
edit: found a product called Gemini... testing it out... but.. there seems to be a ton of apps for the PC environment, not so many for Apple... which is what we need.
edit 2: Head of IT just informed us that we are not looking for "duplicate" video files... we are looking for different "versions" of the video files... because.... a duplicate would be an exact copy... a different version would be two or more copies of the same video in different formats.
