  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDucation

Just to add little comment to Von's Card it's great idea. Von also has practical back focus test chart plate, I'll say another A+ idea.

Cheers,

actually the Back Focus adjustment plate is made by Jeroen Hendriks, who is the rockstar DIT from Gamer, Book of Eli, and Knowing. I'll see if I can find a link somewhere to the plate.

Over the past few runs of REDucation, we've streamlined the course, and are combining the Camera and Post sides of the course into one comprehensive class (no longer will we have the option of taking just the camera side or the post side separately.)

We proved with REDucation what we knew all along, that with the RED, shooting and post are so intertwined, that it doesn't make sense to separate them into to different modules. Considering there is a large on set component of post production, viewing footage, prepping files for editorial, screening dailies during or immediately after the shoot, etc. it really is critical to know all of it to be fully effective as a RED expert.

By combining the Camera and Post sides, we will be making it more focused on the subject matter that's most important, based on feedback we have received from the first few classes.

The new structure for REDucation is as follows: 6 day class - 2.5 days of Camera tech and on set practices, 2.5 days of Post Production for both on set and off set (post environment) editorial, color grading and DI finishing for TV and Theatrical deliverables. Middle day will continue to be the RED community day, giving the students in the class time to interface with the various companies that support RED in both production and post.

Classes will still be fully hands on with many RED camera packages, all kinds of support gear, both 4k and 2k projection. Many Mac workstations for On set Tech training and post production training, and RED Rocket™ enabled 4k screening station to view Student shot footage in 4k.

REDucation Vegas:

First class we are planning to run as discussed above will be in Las Vegas from April 8th to April 12th with a special REDuser and REDucation day on April 14th. Then we will be running this class structure in NYC and LA and we are working on the international version, with planned locations in Paris, London and select Cities in Asia and India - dates to be announced sometime early 2010.

This REDucation Vegas looks to be a very popular destination, as it is set to run directly before the NAB show, so many people coming in from all over the USA and Internationally will extend their trip by a week, and combine REDucation with their NAB activities.

We will do our best to accommodate as many students that want to take the Vegas REDucation class. With many RED camera packages and Mac workstations to accommodate the hands on learning style we teach, and large screen 4k and 2k projection it will be a great environment to learn and have fun. Even though this class will be larger than our normal class size, we will be increasing support staff, gear and the venue to support it properly, just as we have with our LA classes.

If you are interested in Vegas REDucation, please register soon at REDucation.net, as we anticipate this class will fill up fast, even with the larger number of students we plan to work with on this run.

The 2010 Dates are up: http://www.reducation.net/dates.html The Vegas Registration is up now, and the other classes will open up registration soon.

Thanks for all the interest and support for RED Digital Cinema's Education efforts. It was a great start in 2009 and we look forward to a great year of REDucation in 2010.

+ Ted

Ted, even so I most likely will not attend, please fill absolutely welcome to ask me for anything, and It will be more then a great pleasure to assist you in any way, also I imagine that you already have your venue picked up, but I should also have relevant info by mid of next month as for the new KETCHFRAME facility, which could offer a 4K Projection with Theater seatings, off course I also know that this event s can run i the hundreds of participants, but nonetheless let me know.

Is there any hope that reducation would be epic & scarlet inclusive in seminars after the second half of this year

I am planning on attending an upcoming Reducation workshop. I am a Vegas user, so my questions is, Will I be completely lost during the post production section? I have very little experience with Final Cut.

I have not attended a Reducation week yet, but having had many discussions with DPs and Gaffers, many have expressed interest in the post process. Not that they want to become editors but they would like to see the process from acquisition through final color correction to see exactly what happens with the RAW once it is brought into a post environment. So, I think you will enjoy the REDucation class even if what you primarily do is shoot. You don't have to learn editing as much as how the RED footage is used throughout the post process.

I just attended the last one and cant tell you how valuable it is to attend BOTH sessions.

Michael Cioni and Steve Freebairn are super smart and wonderful instructors.

Cant recommend this workshop enough!

I believe Ryan Kunkleman is the rockstar DIT from Gamer, Book of Eli and Knowing

EDIT: Apprently they both are

No worries Shawn, There are a lot of rockstar DIT's out there, and the number is just going to go up. Jeroen is not only a rockstar he's also really nice, very professional, and humble.

REDucation was an incredible program and I would highly recommend it to anyone truly interested in working with these incredible cameras. 2009 was a great class, hope everyone is out there doing great things in 2010.

Ted, with the new M-X and Build, any update course for previous participants of REDucation during NAB?

Ted, with the new M-X and Build, any update course for previous participants of REDucation during NAB?

The monitor shots weve seen of Epic make it seem to have a different HUD,and with the new color science in REDcineX will there be a big impact on the content of REDucation?

REDucation Vegas from April 8th to April 12th.

We are ramping up the planning now, and this promises to be a very interesting, in depth week of learning the RED camera and post workflow.

Registration is open now, follow this link to register:

http://www.reducation.net/registration.html

We are working on a much larger scope event that our previous REDucation classes in LA, to handle all the interest and demand worldwide from students coming in for this and staying for the NAB show, and attending the REDuser Vegas event on April 14th.

This will be a unique, one time event that will will be taking the first 200 students that register. There will be a vast amount of RED camera gear, including some cameras with the new MX sensor in them, and the latest post production software and utilities to work with the footage. A large amount of teaching and support staff will be there to keep things as much hands on as possible, and a team of highly trained presenting staff to teach the latest RED workflows for shooting and posting all types projects on the RED is preparing now for the class.

Any questions about REDucation Vegas, you can email to: info@reducation.net

Looking forward to meeting many people eager to take their RED skills to the next level in Vegas in April!

Thanks

+ Ted
