So I am heavily looking into moving on from my Black Magic and investing in a RED in early Jan to continue to shoot my shorts, take on work from clients and shoot my first full feature. During my research on the camera and what the company offers, I saw that Red has a 3 day course that they offer and I am considering taking the course they are offering in Feb. My question is, has anyone taken the 3 day course and what are our thoughts on the course. Did you find it beneficial and did you alter your approach in terms of how you shoot your footage on your RED camera?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I took the very first reducation way back when and found it invaluable, both from the instruction and from the opportunity to interact with other people working in the same scenarios and conditions I was.

Ive since taught at a couple, and have found it just as insightful every time!

Get on it!

Thanks for the feedback Andrew. I plan on purchasing my RED in mid Jan and the course is mid Feb in NYC so I'm very confident I'll be in attendance.

Thanks Again...

Tony, I recently switched from Blackmagic (BMCC 2.5K) to RED (Scarlet Dragon) also. I never did Reducation, so I can't comment on that.
To get started, I suggest:
1) reading every article on RED 101: http://www.red.com/learn/red-101
2) reading the entire DSMC Operation Guide: https://www.red.com/downloads?category=Documents&release=final
3) lurking here like crazy

I don't have anything to show publicly at the moment because I'm still in the testing phase, getting to know the cam, but I'm glad I made the jump!

Akin,

Thanks for the feedback sir and I'm really excited to take the next leap onto a RED. I'm assuming you will some RED produced content on your site soon, so I'll keep my eye out for it.

Best of Luck!

Tony

I went to REDucation in the UK at Pinewood studios in Feb just after we got our Epic.

I can say it was a really fantastic experience, John Marchant who lead the course was an amazing teacher and was able to answer all the questions I had. It's a great place to talk with other RED Owners/Users and really understand how to use the camera effectively such as understanding exposure and working with RAW files. I had a great time and would certainly suggest it to any new RED owners just to simply ask questions and learn everything top to bottom from colour science to setting up the camera!
