I'm a 52 year old film student finishing my BS probably the end of this year. I have a passion for documentary and solo work, and recently picked up a Red Komodo-X (ex-sony). I wanted to enquire about whether the REDucation course (NY Aug 2025) would be a benefit for me. I have zero professional experience.

Congrats on your new camera!

Is this the class—at Abel in August?

I think it looks like a good class. And if you learn well in a hands-on environment, then I think it’ll serve you well.

If you’re not sure, look over the topic list. If you feel 100% comfortable with everything but the Red-specific topics, your other option would be to read Red’s site (there are good articles on several of these subjects) and look up videos on individual topics. But it’s all good review otherwise.

Didn't know they were having one in NYC area.
I've never been to a REDucation but from what I understand of the course it's seems to lean more
on the understanding basic technical issues involving cinematography specific to RED cameras and
workflow.

Considering your KX investment, if you have some money for the classes it wouldn't hurt.
Since you're trying to break into the field it would be useful to network with others attending as well.
