  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RED's flaws...

Jim, give yourself and your team a pat on the back... you did it today...and you're getting ready to do it tomorrow. I was putting together my cart and I was astounded... so many things were off backorder, you were making it hard to put down a deposit :biggrin5:

Keep up what you're doing. You just made canon look like a bunch of fools. And you've got all of my camera business from this day on. That's not a lot of money, but to me as a working photographer and videographer, it's my craft...and I suppose that's the biggest gesture I can make.

Thanks for delivering the dream. And here's to getting everything off backorder in 2012!

Spotify is the best thing to happen for my insomnia in a long time.

There is little question that RED is the one company that has the customer in mind. Or that RED is likely to "out-spec" the industry at any given price point.

The RED flaw? Delivering.

That is all changing. Since we brought Kent, Sean and Rusty over from Oakley... things are changing. Did I forget Mike?

The factory at Parker is state of the art. You need to visit and see for yourself. Bring your camera.

So... when does RED go from perennial backorder to not?

February 2012. Three months from now. And every day starting now is better than the day before.

No one (or very few) questions our vision at this point. Soon... few will question our execution.

Watch.

Jim

I love you guys, please keep rock on...

What I find fantastic is that...

...you guys have produced the "cheapest" Pro- product - "Scarlett", and the best-and-any-price-point "Epic".

Scarlett specs are ridiculous to be at that price point. HDRx? I didn't see that coming. Here comes the 4K rush.

Heck, media is more expensive than the camera!

How the hell are you going to keep up with demand? I want 2 now!

Labour crisis? What labour crisis?

Seriously though, I hope you guys get the supply chain streamlined. Going to be tough with all these new products too.

EPIC stage announcement is tomorrow.

Jim

YES!!!!! I wish I could order both! But this is the news I have been eagerly waiting for! And a big fat CONGRATULATIONS on the Scarlet product launch/announcement/ass-kicking. You know you're doing something right when they are trying to "suppress" your voice (web attack). Clear indication that they are threatened. Keep changing the world!!!!

He he... 2012... according to the Mayan the world ends.... 2012... ;)
Kecth, I think the Mayan calendar actually was disabled when the Mayan civilization ended. Those extra centuries were just bells and whistles. ;->

Honestly, the delivery thing can be a little annoying, but to me Red's biggest flaw is over-hype.

Canon announced 1080p30 AGAIN yesterday. With a slightly less crappy codec this time. Snore. You guys announced 3K@48fps and a stills camera in the same camera!!!

Scarlet-X is amazing! How could I possibly be disappointed? Because you promised me 3K@120fps and hyped the hell out of yesterday's announcement as Scarlet moving up in features.

I know you tried to dial it back with that "Expectations..." thread, but you created your own monster...

Just only one question left there how many old Reduser members BANNED today after the announcement of Scarlet lol perhaps jimm got busy in that now, anyways 4 years of waiting over here just over which stared from $3000 end up with & $14000 (without lenses) lol great work RED team appreciate your dedicated hard work to make a movie camera which most of Red fan boys can't afford but also it was a nice business trick to make them wait for years....

Good Luck Jamse jannard

I beg to differ. Scarlet 2/3 was a curiosity to me, basically competing with the prosumer Sonys and Panasonics in the $6K price range. How's Red, with 400 people, going to hit with companies with tens of thousands of manufacturers? Red is about quality, not quantity. The Epic S became Scarlet, which supports Red's marketing posture that 2K is not enough. I wasn't even considering Scarlet, now I am.

For the youngers scraping together enough to get into Red, the bar has been raised a bit, but there are many good options out there that look fine for under $5K. I think Red is very wise to position in the pro level - Redcode and Raw and the power to process them are what makes Red so much better than the pro competition, still selling systems for 2-3 times the cost of Epic, 5-10 times the cost of Scarlet (Epic S)

My only concern with the Epic S / Scarlet rollout was the value of existing Red Ones. I think that's why the great Stage programs were offered to early Red One owners. But the processing power (translating to frame rates) of Scarlet seems to hit a spot that will leave a place for Red Ones - higher frame rates at 4K. Once again, brilliant.

Congrats Jim!
I rarely feel bad for a company, but yesterday I actually felt pity for Canon. Kind of like Gollum in Lord of the Rings.

RED's biggest flaw, in my opinion is draining my bank account! Making a product valuable enough to get me to pay a few dollars more. (On the flip side I would not even think of owning anything at that level if it was not for RED!)

And yes, I think you just poked the hornets nest! This I believe got a lot of attention from the big players.

I can not wait to hear the other announcements from RED.

Every day better. Every spec. Every delivery. Every accessory. Everything.

Jim

That will be nice Jim.

It would be great if I could, once again, start receiving stuff that I order from RED on time and not after others who ordered AFTER me. This has been happening to me a lot lately.

What would also be nice is for "overnight" to actually mean overnight and not overnight+RED's ambiguous "processing time".

Dear Santa,
can I please have a.........oh fuck it, I'll buy this present myself, you can get me something else

Don't feel sorry for Canon. Scarlet is shipping with a Canon mount option. Where do you think the lenses to go on those Scarlets will come from?

How would this work on a Scarlet?

$47 000, probably not sounding good over at Scarlet user I would imagine?
