I have Red One footage at 4k 16:9 and I want to down res to 1920x1080. I want to use red rushes as well. But what RES setting do I use? Full Or Half?

I obviously want the best I can get, but am finishing on 1920x1080...

Hi John,

The Debayer setting Half Res (High) is a good one for most footage destined for 1080. It was written especially for this and works well.

If you don't have too much footage, I would try both and see which you like best. If you have have low light footage and are getting some noise, a full debayer will help.

In future, if you are going to 1080, the 4KHD setting is better than 16x9 as they created it as an exact multiple of 1920x1080. The 4K 16x9 setting is the right aspect, but not an even multiple. The result is a cleaner image and transcodes much faster.

I actually do have some low light footage. Its at night, wide open. So Full DeBayer for noise? And Full Res?? Any other suggestions??

No problem John. Yes, full debayer will produce cleaner footage.

Other than that, I prefer to leave the sharpness settings on their default and if you are making QuickTimes, particularly ProRes, get the colors as close to final as possible so you don't have to grade much at the end, the files have lost so much color info by this point that they won't bend far.

If you are going to DPX for grading, this isn't an issue and you should leave the files neutral.

Build 20 is MUCH better on noise as well.
