  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Redrushes and Qmaster

If you open Qadministrator It will show you the computer involved in the cluster and which computers are currently using services. However the Batch Monitor will show you which computer is doing which job and which Frames...

However I've removed all my Nodes, just for this experiment. So I havn't seen how other computers join in yet. I have seen the Frame count, where it divides the frames up between Nodes and distributes them in other workflows. It should do the same here.

The script I'm using is straight from redrushes is:

REDline -i (FILE LOCATION) --outDir (SAVE LOCATION) -w 11 -R 1 --useMeta --colorSpace 11 --gammaCurve 14 --filter 5 --fit 1 --QTcodec 0 --noClobber

...and it gives me audio every time.

As per my issue, it seams that qmaster is only using one computer for its processing and not sharing the load. It's not utilizing unmanaged or managed processors...what am I doing wrong?

I would still guess it's using an older REDline somewhere.

Qmaster really only works best for compressor and maybe shake because it's really customized to those (mostly compressor).

On the flip side, when you render Quicktimes via REDline, it has to do it in one pass so only one machine can work on a clip. There are ways to do it over multiple machines but it's not always faster and is wrought with complexities.

I definitely understand the Qmaster faults... The only time it really bangs is when its doing a Render from .PSD's . Mostly because it can copy the content fast enough to participate in the Distributed processing

Bring on the complexities! I need to put my processors to work. I want my renders to fly.

To do that, do I have to select the different clusters in the qmaster app when submitting the separate clips or groups of clips?

So how is it that RedAlert can distribute processing, I'm assuming using redline, and I can't set up a batch from redrushes via a script, using redline, into qmaster and utilize distributed processing?

Both can if you are going to dpx/tiff.
For QTs, RA sends one clip in the queue while it breaks up the
clip into groups for dpx/tiff (if you enter the # of nodes).

Will batch transcodes to quicktime clips with distributed processing be something we can look forward to with the next versions of the software?

OR...

Is there another way to achieve this workflow with other software or work around?

I've already tried batching through compressor from the proxy's and failed since qmaster doesn't know how to distribute wrapper files for rendering. I tried batching them through terminal with straight REDline script, but that still only utilizes the computer it's on... so yeah... any help?

I think what Deanan was saying is that its not practical to wrap a transcoded Quicktime from RAW over distributed processing. However when you do this, he is saying it will just take a certain number of Quicktimes to each node... Effectively doing the same thing... Distributed processing... That is How the Redline feature in Red Alert works... I assume.
