Hi guys!

Does anyone knows what's the best thunderbolt enclosure for the new red rocket X. I'm currently working on set with a 21.5 iMac and a 17" MBP.

Unless you have a new MBP Retina with TB2, you'll be stuck with TB1, but even then the rocket-x should be twice the speed of the old rocket, as long as it's the only card on the TB channel. The rocket-x only uses 1/3 of its capacity with the beta drivers, it won't run at full speed until the release drivers in January, so it wouldn't run any faster over TB2 right now anyway. Both the magma and sonnet rack cases look good, once the TB2 interface cards and cables become available, they'll be much more useful.

I preordered one of the first Maxx Digital's RRX Enclosure... TB2..., If you order one today it should take couple of weeks to get it, depending on backorder status.

Well.... I've got a RRX, Ive tested it over TB1... being honest, it didn't really brake any records. other than being able to transcode Dragon... (knowing that only 1 lane of 3 in the RRX are actually turned on at the moment)
TB2 might be a new story. (fingers crossed)

Note, We did a 5k to prores HD transcode via RCX using the new MAC PRO 2 days ago... It transcoded faster than using a current Red rocket via thunderbolt through a laptop.

No shit...

Looks like TB1 is the real bottle neck.

Hey Mark

Was that dragon 5K footage ?

Also what's the spec of your New Mac Pro Please ?

Also what type of Raid was the footage on ?

Thanking you

I get about 10 FPS with Dragon 6K footage on my nMP (4K and 5K is faster) whether I use the Rocket or not. I about to try our the Alpha firmware and RCX to see how it performs.

12 core, 64GB Ram and AMD FirePro 700s (those are the important elements I think) I have TB2 but I'm not sure it makes much of a difference at this point. I wish I understood more about all this tech, I just know what the real world experience has been for me, but I'm sure it will change and change again.

Which box are you using for the rocket? Does not sound like it is a TB2 box....
Because of the lower speed, the 12 core won't give you the best playback performance either but 10 fops for that set up sounds wrong...

I am having a similar issue with the RR (original) card in a Sonnet Echo Express III. We have successfully had the card in both PCI slots with a Mac Pro (running 10.9) and a PC (Windows 7). We have the most current RR firmware installed (v1.1.17.3) and the most current driver (v1.4.36.0).

The problem is using the Sonnet Echo Express III on our iMac (27", 3.5GHz i7, 32G RAM, OS 10.8.5), which also has the most current RR driver. The mac recognizes the TB chassis, but not the RR card.

We have tried this with 2 separate RR (original) cards. The first recognizes and mounts intermittently, while the second does not mount or recognize at all with either RedCineX Pro and DaVinci Resolve. The TB chassis did recognize other cards.

Any information on possible fixes would be appreciated.

the sonnet express echo III needs a different riser board to work with the original rocket....when you send in for your TB2 upgrade (which won't make a difference for you in terms of speed since the imac is TB1) you should mention that you have a rocket and need the new/replacement riser board....

I have the TB2 upgraded Sonnet Echo Express 3, my nMP does recognize the RRX card, it's just not faster than the machine it's self at this point, but I have every faith that this will change soon.
