Dear RED Co. + Friends,

I'm about to purchase a REDRocket card any second now, but before I do, I wanted to ask if there is any known info about the REDRocket and it's support for the forthcoming EPIC camera...

Am I correct in assuming that when EPIC is released, the existing REDRocket hardware will support it (and accelerate the workflow, as it currently does with the RED One)? OR, will there soon be a new, better / different REDRocket card required for EPIC, etc? Any hints about the expected compatibility / longevity of the REDRocket would be very much appreciated.

Again, I'm assuming it will be useable with future implementations of RED cameras and REDCode codecs... right???

Very Best,

- Jordan

Well given its brand new. and very few companies so far (software developers) have released RR support, its hard to fathom the RR wont have some shelf life... lots of people still waiting for RR integration into workflows.

and YES, Jim, Jarred and Deanan and Graeme have all said it would speed EPIC workflow, just havent benchmarked it yet as they are still "baking" the sensor...

I, too, have a hard time to believe that there will be a new card for Epic's. As Tim mentioned, the RR has yet to fully function although it has enormous potential. I believe the current RR will be sufficient enough to process Redcode from the future Epic's when it's fully functional, or that's what I want to believe.

Also in the same position as Jordan here...have a tv show's worth of dailies I need to turn around soon and trying to figure out if RR will be worth the jump with EPIC on my horizon.

I sure hope not, I just recently (one week) bought TWO red Rockets.

I think you will need the RR even more when you get into an Epic! The RedCode/data rates will be even better/robust/bigger with Epic. I think most will want the RED Rocket™. My experience with Red for the last two years is that they will keep you hardware up to date and workng! (or they will offer a very fair upgrade path). I say do it!

Prost,
Rich
