Redrock rip off

Paying $350 freight this week on a new steadicam system. Being based on the world's largest island, there's no choice but to cop it on the chin. Keep in mind shipping is linked to the price of oil and that ain't ever going to get cheaper. Roll with it dude. Spare a thought for our fellow British Redusers paying up to $17 (US) a gallon for fuel.

You guys get so furious it is no wonder people feel scrutinized on this thread for posting their thoughts, however, all of your points seem valid to a degree, but a lot of you are talking about out of country shipping. I live in LA where most of redrocks shipments go out of, the other half, Texas. Redrock is doing great things I love the products, great quality low cost.

However their shipping prices are excessive in my book and they don’t offer options. Take all the jabs you want, but I don’t know of any company that would ship a 3 oz item UPS ground for 17.00 locally.

heh? if you do the packing for less then 8 dollars, maybe brian will hire you for packing the coming hundreads of MBs.

I agree with the guys here. Redrock is an outstanding company, putting something as blunt as what you have in the title (over a few bucks handling) is a little bit more than inconsiderate. You should try having to ship everything half way accross the world everytime you want to order cine gear :\

For everyone who found it necessary to jump down my throat without doing their research (Suede), BHphoto charges a 4.95 UPS ground shipping/handling charge for a chrosziel .8 follow focus replacement gear. Almost Identical to the one Redrock sells. So stated my opinion, Im not attacking anyone. Just questioning...

Okay PMascetta maybe shipping is a little over what you expected
and some here are a little harsh to say. UPS does charge a lot and
some gear companies are adding there fee to make a little profit off
the shipping.

When you start your business you will realize you need to add a few
bucks for the trouble of packing and printing out those shipping forms.

You know you could always raise your rate a little if you have customers
also just to keep up with the high cost of everything in this world.

Best of luck and don't mind all the people that get you down
just focus on your production and make the best of what you have.

BHphoto is a much larger company than Redrock and ship many, many more items, worldwide.

My only point was that I'm sure Redrock are not actually 'ripping you off' as the thread title seems to insinuate.. that's all

Cheers

You are probably getting a lot of harsh responses because of your title. Would you not say that it is fairly harsh towards Redrock?

I also can't remember the last time I've ordered something online with shipping costing less than $17.

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of Redrock Products great quality low price. But, can someone please explain to me their shipping costs. I went to order the upgrade gear for their follow focus, was ready to order and then bam, shipping cost 17 + dollars for UPS ground. And this isnt the first time shipping costs have been an issue with them.

Brian?

Sorry to say, but if you were in deed a Huge fan of RR, you would have never used such a unfit title to your Thread!

I know personally Brian, Fantastic fellow, and responded always promptly and \in detail to any of my Q? since the days of my RR Macro 35mm Lens Mount, now I purchased the RR MB, and service and pricing are Just so incredibly Low for their High quality products, especially in the case of the RED Edition RR MB.

I have been a Fedex account older for some time now, and as well a long time user of UPS, there is very little to no difference in most instances in their shipping prices, but Fedex always gets in in time and never brocked a ting, UPS on the other hand ... well lets leave it at that.

I would seriously make an Apology to Brian for your Title, and ask a Moderator to change your title to a more proper one.

I would not like a title like that pointed out to my company or my services if they were so wrongly put.

Nothing personal here... just an advise from a fellow RDUSER.

As far as comparing B&H Photo Video (of which I have been a costumer for many years) to RR is absolute madness as the sizes of both companies are just not even close to 1 to 100, and RR manufactures their products, B&H is a huge reseller, in fact one of the larger one in the world.

Unfortunately true

Please edit the title of this thread. It is very insulting to Brian and misleading to everyone who sees only the title.

Same as Steve and Rossi!

I use RedRock for years, never have a problem, I don´t think they have the best prduct but they offer more quality than the price you paid.

I really like RR products.

Yesterdey order the RED MATTEBOX, waiting with patience today :)

Sorry, I think it's my fault for throwing B+H and UPS into this mix. Maybe it's cheaper for a certain-sized company to go with one particular shipper, and it must streamline the paperwork and communications necessary. Anyway, just park your car and go for a coffee, then count the pennies that've rolled away.

I disaggree with this. Then MacDonalds guys will take a buck to put the hamburger in the lil' cardboard box, and, and, and...

Service is service. They shouldn't charge for just doing their work. Packing your customers goods is all in a day's work.

Your analogy is hilariously inappropriate.

The cost to pack the box is there and can't be avoided. It either has to be built into the price or added as handling.

In your McDonald's example the cost is built into the price of the hamburger.

I don't know why you're chortling at Lewis, this is wrong, too. McDonald's benefits from the efficiencies of the economy of scale, specialization, and automation, period. So does B&H. They sell enough products that they can afford to provide their customers with a large and efficient dedicated packaging and shipping system, thereby keeping costs contained.

Smaller businesses which sell less products, such as RedRock, usually do not, and the are able to pay their employees by the additional handling charges that people are (mostly) willing to pay, in exchange for original products or original pricing. Or both. RedRock could bake the $17 (and more, quite easily) into their existing pricing structure, but they are committed to being a cost-breakthrough provider. They have built their business on that model.

Much better to pay a few bucks up front than to encourage the vendors to bake it into their price structure by making ill-informed accusations....

Moderator, this has gotten heated and off topic, can you please close and remove.

Hi All

All I can add is that the shipping costs are shipping *and handling* costs. They are literally costs - no markup that we are passing along. We are looking at ways to reduce our handling costs and if we can do it, we'll pass along lower prices to you. Also we ship exclusively via federal express

Thanks again for the feedback - much appreciated

Brian
