Ladies and Gentlemen,
In case you haven't been alerted yet... the Redrock micro Mattebox is finally shipping!

A lot of hype and chatter is going on over at the Redrock micro forums about this baby and boy let me tell you, it is DEFINITELY on my wish list.

Anyway, I just wanted to note some changed that have been made and some things that have stayed the same.

The price of this thing is still remarkably low. I mean $695 for a fully functional mattebox with 2 rotating stages, an eyebrow, and french flags is just impressive!

You can still get accents with Red, Blue, or Black as your options.

The swing-away arm is still one of the prominent features. However, Brian and the Redrock team decided to make the hinge mechanism stronger to prevent any play in the swinging system.

They enlarged the release mechanism knob. Although a lot of people might not understand the significance of the change... those of us with larger hands might! Actually, I can also see where having a larger knob could be beneficial when trying to operate using grip gloves and what not.

Anyway. I just wanted to fill everyone in on what's new with this thing. There is approximately a 40 day wait from time of order. So if you want one, you might want to hop to it.

60 days more like...

60 days more like...

Old news...its finally shipping now. I made a reservation back in October...amazing how long stuff take to build, I guess...

40 business days...more like 60 (regular) days or two monts. Bit too long.

Why haven't they made like 3000-5000 units. I know they know and we all know they are going be selling like hot cakes here for us RED owners.

Arri should make a cheap version (I mean price wise) to counter their sales...but they feel probably not worth they're German time to waste.

Cheers.

I am in need of a MB asap, if Arri had a lower price MB available now I would hop on it (even considering the MB Arri is making for EX1)...maybe Redrock will ramp up with increased sales?

Pay now for "Full deposit"...or else!!!

Yes, I would hope so too...it amazing of these companies ask for deposit or "full deposit" for the privilege...we wait for months and months and finally we get the e-mail like we won the lottery...only to be disappointed & upset that we have to wait longer to get our prize. That's not cool.

What RedRock doesn't know they will sell ton of these MB? I think they know...if not, they must be drunk. Good quality and great price...”Neh...sell a couple of them...break even...if we are lucky!!!” Sure, that's what they are thinking.

Cheers...

Look, this is a brand-new product, engineered well and then improved upon just prior to "mass production" which doesn't really happen, because they manufacture it only once you've placed your order, and that's why you'll be waiting forty days from now. A time-frame that will decrease....

Hey! Wait a minute, but you placed your order in October, when you first heard about this offer: BUT way before they were actually producing them. And now you've got ants in your pants, your sandwich has gone stale and you're even getting a bit PO'd. Hmmm, sounds familiar.... :>)

Now that they're producing, your back-order'll be in your hands sooner than the stated forty days; correct me if I'm wrong. And once you've got it, you'll forget what all the bitching was about. And if you absolutely need one now, check out the local rental house, say you're making an indy, cut a deal!

BTW, I've ordered the black knobs, but I don't know about finner's, (another last-minute improvement by Redrock before the P-line rolled), and the RED Micromattebox configuration is $795. Cheers! No hard feelings!

I respect REdrock and have been using there gear for some time now, I have a feeling they will ramp up and if so then sign me up. Good luck Brian.

Dear Clay Haskell!

With hair like yours, you should be in front of a camera, too - but way past the mattebox! You're hip! (On topic? And IF they ramp up, you can wait?)....

BTW, I'm playing with RockyRoad....

Rhino skin, baby.

Hey,

No hard feeling...I have Rhino skin...no worries.

I agree with you...I understand the complexities of R&D to make a quality product...but I don't think its cool when you pay "Full" and then have to wait like five months. I think they should of done a 10% deposit, when ramping up the shipping...then pay just like RED company. That's all I'm saying!!!.

Sorry, I heard and place my name/contact info on the reservation list. Then about three months ago they send me another e-mail requesting payment for the unit, Unforunetly...I was too busy producing a feature abroad that soaked all my time, including simple pleasure of sending payment to RedRock. My bad.

The quality and price is great...yes, they probably wil ramp up production. I'm not too worried.

Cheers and Never hard feelings here...Good clean fun in the RED forum.

rockyroad, I'm still a little fuzzy on the details: you paid in full, they told you they would deliver soon after receiving your payment (in what time-frame?), and you still got diddlysquat?

I've been following the developement and Redrock released some pre-production units, but nothing "enmasse".... Were you a golden ticket holder?
This could be a communication problem. Anyway, it's all soon to be forgotten!
