  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

REDRAY Comments

I'm hoping the delay of shipping the Red Ray Player is due to some little change they've come up with to make it even better. (We all know that RED is never satisfied.)

But my expectation is that they've been working on the .RED codec to make it even better... perhaps to make it easier and faster to encode.

That's somewhat peculiar since LG manufactures the panel used on both their own and Sony's 4K TV. Sony reps have freely admitted it, too.

The panel itself is only part of the picture quality equation. IMO, Sony has much better electronics expertise, particularly with 4K/UHD. Not surprising as they have been doing 4K in the projection market for many years. I would expect they have both IP and silicon that LG does not.

Cheers - #19

is ODEMAX still alive?

Their website is still up with no changes from when first linked. They still say they are tied to the Crimson, Red Player exhibition process and will be available to single users or theater venues. Also the big 4k Red Grouper is about to devour the blue 1080p catfish that is about to feast on the green 720p crappie (that's crappie, not crappy) fish that is nibbling on the yellow SD minnow.

how come they never announced when they said they were going to announce the system?

Probably waiting on the release of .RED and affordable 4k TVs so people can watch. Just my guess.

Actually yesterday I get there through there Twitter account and saw some changes... There is 6 films listed, including Phillip Holland's one, but no way to watch them.

And it reads like there will be a web version of their videos, that they call SD (but maybe this is HD in their language), for none RedRay viewers. I think this is smart to go that road, so that platform is more than RedRay content. I think it should be on iPad, PS3, Xbox... with HD capabilities, like Netflix - and have the RedRay option as an exclusive 4K option.

EDIT : link deleted

Great news. I wish them all the best. They are seeking to attract content providers by saying there MAY be a chance to make it to the first 100 if you hurry. I wonder if they will hand out tee shirts and hats to the first 100? Seriously, the content on their cite is rated as to Quality and Maturity. Who does those ratings and what exactly do they mean?

+1

My question exactly. I immediately started searching to try and decipher the ratings, but I wasn't able to find an answer. It seems the "1" rating equates to the lowest rating, but that seems dubious.

Guys - you realize the site wasn't yet meant for public consumption. Someone has done an oops here perhaps. :-( I suspect the ratings and some of the other fine tuning are still being done. That's why the site hasn't been released or announced yet.

Copy that. Thanks, Terry.

But now it has me contemplating how the ratings system will work. It would be nice if we could give feedback before the system goes live.

ODEMAX looks good.

I'd sign up if I had content.

If they are taking applications to be the first you guys with content should jump on it.

What are the conditions of contest? You should jump on it no matter what. Right? what benefit is there if any in being in the first 100? Do you get a better rate from helping ng start their business. Does Sony offer a better deal. What is Sony offering independents?

Mark, while I agree with you that getting an "I'm one of the first 100" button shouldn't be a big deal (but for some, that seems to be worth more than money... go figure) I remember back when RED first started. Those first 100+ have been at the head of the line for every new camera upgrade plus getting sweetheart deals. There was no promise of this when RED began taking orders so better to be early than sorry later. '-)

OK. Let me as having no poker in the fire not being a filmmaker etc. lend some clarity to the discussion. How does Odemax help me make money now? There are no Redray players out there yet. I wanna sell my content and make money. Are commercial theaters going to have Redray players and can I peddle my content to them through Odemax. OK OK I will sell it to consumers. How many consumers will have Redray players say in the next three to six months. Oh. I get it. Other filmmakers will be buying the Redray for a paltry $1450 to $1750. They will be buying my content. Screw it. Its got nothing to do with me making money. Just send me the button, tee shirt, and hat. Maybe the first 100 will get featured listing status forever. What are the damn details?

First of all, we don't know the entire plan yet. And as for having it all RIGHT NOW!, well you have to understand you are posting among some of the most patient people in the world... the original Red camera owners. (We weren't always like that... Jim and Jarred and company have taught us that '-) That is to say, we expect some hiccups as things take shape. Just breathe through your nose and relax and before you know it, all will be known.

What's with their taking applications? Can I apply to be their supply side customer? What if they say no? Do they censor content? What are the details?Somebody said its looks good and its time to jump. Please give me the basis for that recommendation.

I never got the idea they censor content. Only that they may rate it so anyone who might be offended by blue content can be forewarned. I don't know that as a fact. But from the early stages I asked about that. If you are going into peoples homes, you have to differentiate family content from adult only content in some way.

My rhetorical question at the time was to address whether or not ODEMAX films would be rated and by whom since they are to be shown in theaters just like any other movie.

As far as who they are open to, they only list movie makers at the present. I'm not sure if the movie-maker is the chicken or the egg, but whichever, they seem to be the ones who come first.
