  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

I'm shooting a feature and the operators are using the bomb eyepiece. One of the cameras doesn't have a side handle so the only way to control it is with the Redmote. The Redmote has proven completely useless- it constantly has trouble holding the connection at any distance. Both cameras have experienced this problem with the redmotes. I'm very unhappy with this particular product. The camera is great, but the redmote in its current state is awful.

sure, Stuart, you're right. There could be a bias.. the only voices we hear about useless redmote, useless bomb evf, R1 evf not working with epic could well be the voices of a tiny minority among a vast number of happy users. It has happened in the past. However, the silence from Red makes the noise all the bigger... Why not step up on those very serious issues ?
 
Hey stuart, is there a chance you guys can give one of the A-D keys a enter button option? Since we can assign them to so many other functions. Would be a nice backup when the enter button dies. Right now my camera is a paper weight till my touch screen comes (shipped) because I just shipped my REDmote back to get the enter button fixed.

I have seen 2 redmotes where the enter key did not function properly. They were very new redmotes as well. One of the cameras we have on our feature had the enter button issue with the redmote and the one the camera house gave us to replace it has the same issue. Now they have no more spare redmotes (and they take a long time to get) so we have no way of controlling the camera except swapping the bomb evf for the touchscreen every time we want to make a change. Pretty frustrating. Even when the redmote's enter button worked, the redmote itself did not every hold a connection.

That's why I think there should be an option for A-D keys to have an enter option. Not everyone has a touch screen and their side handle yet, so it's the live line on the camera. My REDmote lasted 5 days before the enter button died. When they are docked on the camera, there a great tool, but once the enter button goes, all you can pretty much do is hit record which makes the remote pointless since you have 2 record buttons on the body.
 
the redmote was the unfortunetly the first item i removed from our epic bundle when renting out.
why?
it loses connection too often, its sadly not reliable enough for us.
and i am very cautious when giving out gear.
i learned from the red one that it takes quite some third party gear to make red cameras cinestyle ready, meaning
assecoires work in almost every condition very reliable.
(honestly i did not want to hear, the gear sucks, because the elic brain itself is again a tank, dont know how come that most assecoires are not so well build and most important not so well thought out, maybe AC's should test them heavily instead of single shooters?)

second thing we removed is the sidehandle, because it has a plastic feel. and the quality is unfortunetly also not so well.
(why is it impossible to lock the buttons?)
this brings a huge problem of course.
if you use a bomb, you can not really controll the camera. so again, its strange that you really cant controll the cam without the ts lcd.
the redmote is cumbersome.
so, i wish something as a moduleadaptor with a 2nd monitor port.
the AC can use the TS LCD, the operator the bomb evf, and client can see through hdsdi.

and please, do something about the delay in the monitor path. the imgae on lcd and evf is stuttery on pans.
opengate would be very very welcome. and it would be cool if you can format a ssd without a sidehandle and redmote.
only with the evf attached.
please red, see this a hints to make an awesome camera very very usable in a wide area of usuages.

when i shoot run and gun, i use the sidehandle/rpz and a sidehandle, totally enough. but sometimes i wish
we would reach cinestyle point.
 
Well, I'm having no real "issues" with the REDmote I just received (from another RedUser). It paired without a problem, and controls everything just fine. The range isn't anything to write home about (6-10 feet, maybe), but it seems to work for me as advertised.
 
I received the redmote just a week ago and the enter button is not working as well. Don't they test it before sending out these items. Anyway since I am in Istanbul I can not send it back and wait for it to come back because of time loss and various customs regulations so I have to wait until I go back to USA.

Same here with a loaner. Connection drops now and again but not as often as most reports on the boards.

Our redmote works too. We tested the distance and it can control the camera from appr. 7-8m away. Until now no malfunction problems with it.

+1 to all this points
A comfortable way to Lock/Unlock buttons is a must have.
