  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

RedMags or Third Party 1.8" SSD

For me it is obvious that sooner or later 3rd party replacement 1,8" media discs for Red cameras will occure on the market. I belive that inside redmag there is simple good e-sata or something ssd disc that you can find on ebay. This in not rocket science. There must be an option to have a cheaper media, as 4k workfolw is future. For now we all ned to pay a lot, because of the new standard. When my disc will arrive with packadge, I`ll unscrew, and open it, to make some photo for you guys. But we all need to wait until april...

Or maybe there is someone brave enough to show some photos of opened redmag?

P.S. I had problems with finding any photo of redmag from the mount side. Is it top secret or something? Try to find it in google :)

Greetings

Marceli

If there is enough "requests" for it, I will gladly open up my RedMag. Reply a +1 on this thread and if a few of you do so I'll post some picture of it in a couple days

I would like to revive this thread now that ProVideoCoalition and B&H has confirmed Sony's SRMemory prices.

I originally said 1TB would be approx $6300.

Actually - it's 1TB for $5700 for a 320MB/sec SSD (can write full 18 megapixel 3.2:1 compressed RAW files at 24fps):
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/831332-REG/Sony_SR_1TS25_SR_1TS25_SRMemory_Card_1TB_.html

This is a hell of a lot cheaper than RED's price on 1TB of SSD media - $9950 for a 256GB 4-pack.

Or you can get 512MB for $5700 for a 700MB/sec SSD (can write full 18 megapixel 3.2:1 compressed RAW files at 60fps).

They will also have cheaper cards that "only" guarantee a 192MB/sec write. EG:

Only $1400 for a 256GB SSD:

That's less than half the cost of RED's SSD media - $3200 for a 256GB SSD?! (which you have to buy for Scarlet).

Boy, I wish I could use Sony media on a Scarlet.

If - IF - the Sony media proves to be truly up to spec for Scarlet after testing, I'm sure someone will release an adapter or interface to make precisely that possible.

Even the slowest of the Sony media is ridiculously over-specced, actually.

You know what can already handle MORE THAN DOUBLE Scarlet's sustained data rate?

A $250 Blackmagic Hyperdeck coupled with a consumer Crucial C300 256GB SSD card.
