Hey Guys,

So I am having a bit of a problem with one of my mags, I have two 64's and one 512.
The 64s are running flawlessly, the 512 goes into the camera record fine formats fine etc.

Recently the 512 has been taking an unusually long time to copy over - 1 hour for 5gig over fw800.

With that in mind I had a shoot yesterday and exclusively used the 64s and downloaded as much as possible, there was a few takes where one 64 was full and one was transferring so we had to use the 512, I copied and checked this mag myself and remember it being roll 10 -it took ages but the footage was definitely there and was opening in red cine, the editor is now telling me roll 10 is showing nothing.
We shot 12 rolls all day so luckily I still have 10 with the shots on and am copying this onto another drive before my shoot tomorrow - again taking forever and struggling to load the files in the finder window.

Is there anyway I can check the health of the redmag? has anyone experienced this before? Nervous to use the card at the moment and having two 64s is limiting - especially when I should have another 512gig to play with.

Thanks in advanced

Use disk utility to repair the red mag, then eject and reload the red mag, then it should offload properly

Hey Shiblon,

Ended up with this....

Any ideas?

If you use a mini reader, make sure you power it with the extra USB cable. The 512's take more power and may error out if low.

First of all, did you manage to backup the Roll 10 footage to a drive successfully? If so, have you checked you can play, view and manipulate Roll 10 backup footage with no problems?
I assume you did as you are now trying to repair it?

Are you powering the RedMag reader from bus power only? The 512GB draws more power than the smaller RedMags, and you must power the RedMag from the AC Mains Adapter/ the additional USB to DC adapter cable and not rely on single bus power only.

If you're sure you have got all the footage off the 512GB safely, then secure format the 512GB in the camera. Be aware doing so will permanently erase all footage off the RedMag. You won't be able to recover footage even using Red Undead.

Then do a lot of test records, make sure they playback in camera, and then see if backups work faster. Check for any footage problems.

What camera firmware are you using? It seems like the card is suspect or the camera build that is formatting the card. If you're using an old build or a beta build, then update the camera to a more recent release build.

If you have everything securely backed up and verified, try reformatting the card on your Mac system, MBR Fat32, then try formatting the card in camera and shoot a few test clips. Then repair the card with Mac disk utility, eject and physically remount the card, then verify the card in disk utilities again.

If the card won't repair or verify, then I'd have red look at it.
