Having a bit of a problem with a 128gb REDMAG, heres what happened:

The REDMAG won't be read on the computer. At first it read ok, but when downloading the archives to the hard drive the transfer crashed and a warning sign saying that the drive was not properly disconnected appeared on screen. After that, the MAG won't be read on any other computer or even in the EPIC. When trying other MAG in the REDSTATION, it reads ok.

Im really worried about this project. Any help guys?

Thanks.

Try unplugging everything, and how are you plugging in your red station?, firewiree 800 esata? Try another FireWire cord and also fw 800 computer connection. I had one that acted up and didn't show and this worked for me. Don't forget to reboot, Mac or pc? I was on a Mac.

Also, there is a Red_UNDEAD program at red.com support that might help.

He already said it doesn't read in the Epic so that's a worry. All I can suggest is on the computer see if you can format the SSD. At least you will see if it sees the physical media at all and maybe it's just a formatting issue.

Do SSDs have the normal 12 month warranty?

Thank you all for your kind advice, nothing seems to work though. I´ve already contacted RED support but haven't got a response yet. Not sure about the warranty. So as soon as I get a resolution i´ll post it for further knowledge.

Cheers.

Best of luck Paco, let us know how it turns out as any of us could be in the same boat tomorrow!

Paco,

Try transferring one file at a time.

If you can still see data on the SSD you should be able to recover most of it. WHen you get to the file that screws up, try rendering it directly off the SSD (after transferring all other files) to a 4K prores, cineform, cine DMG or some other appropriate high res format.

Kind regards,

Ivan

Does anyone know about a place other than Red where they can take a look at the RedMag? My concern is the Red support´s response time, and I'm in a tight spot regarding time.

Since the computer said the drive disconnected in the middle of a transfer, and now nothing will even recognise there's a mag inserted (correct?) I'd say something like the SATA interface on the mag has blown up, in which case you're screwed. Only option might be pro data recovery service. Needless to say you should open a ticket with RED.

Paco,

Try transferring one file at a time.

I had to do this with one of our 128GB REDMAGs the first time we used it. The card ended up being bad from the factory and RED replaced it asap once we found the problem. I was able to get all of the data off the card, but had to go through and do about 3GB at a time. It would disconnect and fail to transfer any more at a time. It took about 10 hours for me to go through and get all the data off, but we didn't loose anything, so it was worth it. I would start with that and see if you can recover the data on the card, then open a support ticket and send your card into red for evaluation.
