I just got my camera, however it will not power up it stays idle with the yellow light. So I figured I would update the firmware, well I went to plug in my brand new REDMAG 1.8 and put the SSD inside and turned it on with the FW800. The red light came on and then I got a error saying "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer. The drive isnt showing up in my finder, I dont know if I am missing some drivers or what. Do I hit initialize... All I want to do is use the Epic. I dont know if updating the firmware will fix the idle yellow light issue on the Epic.. its kind of dissapointing powering on the camera for the first time and it not even working... I can use all the help I can get.

Computer specs:

MAC PRO 5,1 running OS 10.6.7
Processor: 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
Memory: 32 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5870

Catch 22, you need to format the ssd... using the camera...

If you know someone with an Epic/Scarlet or a rental house in your area ask them to format your card using their camera.

Hey.. I could be wrong, but I think the redmag needs to be formatted first in camera... But ur camera isnt turning on. Wish I could help u more..

Any ideas on why my camera wont power on? I got the AC Power adapter DSMC plugged into it. My pro battery module is backordered so who knows when I will receive that. I turn it on and the light turns yellow the LCD does not come on, and it just stays on yellow.. I left it alone for 10 minutes and it still stayed on yellow. The Power Adapter light is green though...

Yellow flashing light indicates low level code booting (just looked it up in the manual).

Maybe try another power outlet (different room)... or, like others have said, reach out to other RED ops in your area.

It sounds like you might need to call RED on this...

Going to carry on looking at the manual now... (RED operation guide - section on the Brain).

i don't know where you're located but if you're in NY I'll format your card for you.

I called red support today, and they never picked up the phone. I didnt leave a message.. Will call back tomorrow I suppose. I tried different plugs still nothing. The yellow light stays on, it does not flash. I live about 50 minutes north of Dallas, right on the Oklahoma border. I looked in the manual as well and saw that but also saw that the yellow LED being on means its finalizing. Its very frustrating, receiving my camera 2 weeks ago and not being able to use it for work due to backordered parts. I went ahead and ordered the power adapter got it today, and still the camera wont power up completely. I have shoots thursday, friday, saturday, and monday all of them are full day shoots. If anyone finds a solution please let me know.

Anyone have any ideas?

Well upgrading the camera firmware didnt work.

Maybe there's someone within easy striking distance who could provide a confirmed okay power source. Or you could try yours on another camera. While unlikely, from what you've described, I wonder if it might be a faulty power supply. You don't need a mag in the camera for it to boot up, so I would suspect the power supply first and hope it's not the camera. I don't believe the LED light means it's outputting the correct power voltage, but simply that it's receiving power. It might be something internal, or even some flaw in the connector to the camera. Once you've confirmed the camera won't boot from a known good power source, then you pretty much know it's a camera issue. Then figure out how to go the firmware route. Just a thought, that might be totally off the mark.
