My question is simple and probably quite naive, I would like to know if I need a grading LUT to apply an appropriate curve to RLF, or if I can use the curve editor in Davinci Resolve to get it to the 'right' greyscale gradation. Is there a 'right' gradation or is it just a matter of creative opinion?

The whole point of starting from RLF is to enable more custom adjustments. And not stick another pre-determined transform back again.

There is no universal "grading LUT" as in the context you are referring to, which is to reduce an image crafting part of a coloring process by a pre-determined uniform algorithm. A LUT can be applied with that purpose but as all missuse that one carries a price as well.

"Right" gradation is not uniform.
