I'm testing out new workflow ideas and have encountered a bit of a puzzle,
I'm exporting clips with Redlog film / Redcolor3 to open exr's from redcine pro X 14 (on a macbook pro 10.7.3) as well as DPX's with the exact same Redcine settings from the same R3D's.
When I open these in After effects CS6 / Shake or Speedgrade the Dpx's have the expected Log flat look while the
Open exr's are dark and contrasty.
As a test in Shake I applied a lin to log node to the open exr's and amazingly then they exactly match the DPX's
any suggestions what I might be doing wrong or what might be happening ?

I'm sure lots of people are doing this everyday , what am I missing?

OK problem solved, found an old post of Graeme Nattress's explaining that Open Exr's are a linear only format, so that explains that.

Glad you got it sorted out. Yes, EXRs we export are always utterly linear light.

Graeme
