I've seen a lot of footage that others have shot, not only the the Red cameras, but also on various other cameras where the peoples faces (skintones) are very redish.

Why is it like that?

Crab people!

turn the saturation up for landscapes and objects...don't set the chroma saturation too high for faces

Funny thing. As strange as it's sounds, green landscape and faces are very similar in color. Both predominately contain a lot of yellow. Try to key them and you'll see it immediately. So, unfortunately, your suggestion is not very helpful.

Red in faces can look good in the right applications. Panavision lenses tend to render skin in a way that makes reds really pop in the midtones, and everyone seems to love them. Of course, that's very different from the red-faced look you get from clipped channels due to bad lighting/grading or wonky video camera.

Okay... really though.
Ive seen fottage where the people look like they just cam back from a jog and their faces are red or blushing hard.
Just doesnt look very natural. -- This is all before any grading.

This works for me on set, adjusting chroma (non-destructively) to get a decent image on the monitor so producers aren't concerned with orange or red faces on set. Post grading will offer the most options, of course. Unfortunately many shoots don't have the budget to go to professional color correction, and get a quick, scene to scene correction by the editor before output.

You're right, faces do contain much yellow which can be a concern for me on the Epic, MX...as it resolves yellow and orange a little too much for my taste compared to the other side of the color wheel. Make-up especially shows in an orange, blotchy, chunky manner..(much more so than any other camera i've used or how the human eye sees it on set)...and takes some care to resolve in my opinion.

MX sensor kinda sucks with skintones
Even million dollar budget movies shot on Red fall short imo. Hopefully Dragon will address this.

I have to say think for the most part - and if some of the grading threads are anything to go by - it's a case of people really over enthusiastically grading a massively overdone teal/orange colour palette without due care for the skin.
