By the shooting style Jay described, you made a good guess on who his mystery hybrid shooter might be - and your guess is correct!
I spent a great three days with Jay and his staff at his studio near St. Louis, and out in a beautiful forest, as we shot the new Hybrid RED module for his RED 101 DVD. Jay understands really well each style of field production with RED. I simply reminded him of some very cool lightweight (thus mobile) setups of RED that free us up to get unusual images. - and we documented it in a fun and interesting module, including some samples of my hybrid RED footage.
You can find a new library of my lightweight hybrid RED footage by visiting my RED footage collection on Artbeats:

I shot all of my Artbeats RED footage hybrid style with a crew of one (me!), hiking or pedaling my mountain bike and small bike trailer into the locations, using lightweight hybrid RED setups - using 35mm stills lenses exclusively (mostly Nikon, but some Canon), no matte box (screw-on filters), no follow focus (hand racking lens), eye focusing using 1:1 magnification, exposing using just zebras and histogram, Miller 55 head, Miller Solo 1505 CF legs, and a cine saddle where needed.
When I produce, direct, DP, or shoot for large productions, its with a large crew - but when I'm not doing that you can find me out by myself shooting footage like what I shot for my Artbeats RED collection.
RED One can easily be a 1-person camera...if you open your mind to the possibilities, and develop the skills to shoot by yourself. You simply grab your lightweight RED rig and go out and get some images - just for the love of shooting.
Jay, thank you for a great production experience in St. Louis! I was way happy I spent my time to help you out on this. I think everyone who views your RED 101 DVD will be stoked with the production values and information the entire DVD contains - and adding a Hybrid RED module was a great choice, because it will really open viewer's minds to some alternate possibilities with RED One.
hehehe....the whole time I was reading Jay's post I was thinking "that sounds like Gibby!"
Great advice...it was definitely empowering for a less experienced shooter such as myself to see that one can produce great images / content on Red with what many might call a stripped down set up.
Jay, can't wait to get your DVD when it is available.
