Please see comment #13 above (and the instructions on the Search page). No, it is not ideal - but neither does it require more than about five mouse-clicks, even in the worst case.

Mitch, I'm aboard! I like to reach out to those who love to shoot RED! Keep up the good work.

Just a quick bump before this thread sinks again into the depths. The site will be down for good as of Sunday 9/13/13. See the first post for details.

Sorry to hear the news, Mitch.

I'm disgusted by Red's approach.

Well, as mentioned in the email, the site's time had come anyway - just from a maintenance perspective. So, not the end of the world. And I appreciate the peculiarities of trademark law.

Yeah, I was a little taken aback by the domain handover thing. And apparently, a number of folks have had a similar experience, based on some of the replies I've gotten. But I've been around long enough to have seen Red experience "communication issues" more than once - and most of the time, they've been very cool when it all comes out in the wash. So I'm writing it off as miscommunication rather than dickishness, and going about my business.

Anyway, thanks to all those who've emailed with thanks & encouragement - it's nice to know people got some use out of the site.
